Breakfast Days fundraiser under way Social Services of Ridgewood and the Human Resources Coordinating Committee are asking village residents to join the Ridgewood Public Schools’ annual fundraiser, Breakfast Days, to help stock the food pantry for the summer. From June 13 through 17, non-perishable donations may be dropped off at the Social Services office at the Ridgewood Train Station, 6 Station Plaza. Items needed include boxed cereals, granola bars, pancake mix, fruit juices, coffee, tea, etc. For details, contact the Social Services Association at (201) 444-2980. Minetto offers art workshop Award-winning artist and instructor Lorraine Minetto will offer an oil painting workshop, Mixing Color and Values in Oils, at The Ridgewood Art Institute on Sunday, June 26 from 9 a.m. to noon. Students will learn how to mix color and values and where to place these values to accurately depict a three dimensional object on a canvas. The cost of the workshop is $100. Brookside Trio to perform benefit concert The Brookside Trio will perform a benefit concert featuring music by Beethoven, Debussy, and Brahms on June 24 at 7:30 p.m. The concert will be held at The Unitarian Society of Ridgewood, 113 Cottage Place in Ridgewood. Members of the trio include Claire Kapilow of Rivervale on violin; Fawn Wiener of Suffern, New York on cello; and Deborah Goodell of Ridgewood on piano. The program, which is a benefit for the Bergen County Sanctuary Committee, is open to the public. Donations are tax-deductible and are appreciated. Reservations are not necessary. The Bergen County Sanctuary Committee is a coalition of local congregations, human rights organizations, and interested individuals who have joined to provide humanitarian support and advocacy for political asylum seekers and individuals who have been granted asylum. The Sanctuary Committee provides homes, educational, legal, and medical assistance, and modest financial support to people who have fled persecution. Art camp offered to preschoolers Ridgewood Parks & Recreation will offer a new preschool art program, “Art Doodlers,” for children ages two to five years this summer. This six-week program will meet
on Tuesdays from 2:30 to 3:30 p.m. at the Stable, 259 North Maple Avenue, beginning July 5. Each week, a story will be used to inspire a special masterpiece. The cost of this camp is $110. All materials will be provided. Caregivers must accompany the two- and threeyear-olds. Archivist to address genealogical society Catherine Stearns Medich, a reference archivist at the New Jersey State Archives, will discuss the NJSA’s website, www.njarchives.org, and offer tips on how to get the most from the databases and imaged collections available on the site at the June 27 meeting of the Genealogical Society of Bergen County. Exhibit entries sought for summer show The Ridgewood Art Institute is seeking entries for its Members’ Summer Show, scheduled to run July 5 through Aug. 28. Members are invited to submit one or two entries. The paintings must be priced for sale. Auxiliary luncheon features nutrition expert Nutrition expert Joy Bauer, MS, RD, CDN, will be the guest speaker at The Valley Hospital Auxiliary’s Annual Meeting and Luncheon on Wednesday, June 15 at 11:30 a.m. at the Ridgewood Country Club in Paramus. The new executive board will be sworn in at this event. Bauer hosts a bi-weekly series, “Joy Fit Club” for the TODAY Show which celebrates determined people who have lost and kept off 100 pounds or more through diet and exercise alone. She also hosts the series Joy’s Diet S.O.S., Joy’s Kitchen Rescue, and Joy’s Healthy Food Finds. The author of many New York Times best-sellers, her “Slim and Scrumptious” offers more than 75 easy-to-make, familyfriendly recipes that help adults and children eat healthier. The cost for the luncheon is $30 for auxiliary members and $40 for non-members, which includes the $10 membership fee. Multi-Sports Camp offered Children ages five through 14 are invited to experience different sports from around the world with the Ridgewood Parks and Recreation’s Multi-Sports Camp. The camp will be held Aug. 8 through 12 at Maple Park. Instruction and play may include badminton, baseball, basketball, bocce, cricket, net ball, field hockey, flag football, lacrosse, hand ball, floor hockey, discovery games, Olympic games, parachute, pillo polo, soccer, softball, tennis, touch rugby, and volleyball. All activities and games will take place in a positive, low-pressure, educational environment under the guidance of The U.S. Sports Institute’s qualified coaches. A full day will run from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. for eight to 14 year olds, offering an introduction to 15 sports. The cost is $189. A half-day program is available for five to seven year olds, from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. and offers 10 sports. The cost is $169. All campers will receive a USSI T-shirt and certificate.
