June 8, 2011 THE VILLADOM TIMES II • Page 7 Ridgewood July 4 in Ridgewood is a very special day that the entire area anticipates each year. This year’s theme is “Celebrate the Constitution.” The Ridgewood Fourth of July Celebration Committee is an all-volunteer community group that coordinates the day’s events and does not receive direct funding from the Village of Ridgewood. The committee is actively preparing for this year’s celebration, and is requesting community support. Area residents are encouraged to help “Support the Tradition.” Because of generous support from the community, Ridgewood continues to have one of the best small town Independence Day celebrations. The day’s events will begin with a flag raising and speaker at 9 a.m. at Wilsey Square. American Legion Post 53 will be on hand and Grace Prueninger will sing the national anthem. The parade will begin at 10 a.m., rain or shine, at North Monroe Street and Godwin Avenue. Handicapped parking for the parade will be available on Dayton Street behind Van Neste Park. For a detailed parade route, visit the Ridgewood Fourth of July Celebration’s website at www. ridgewoodjuly4th.org. Ridgewood plans 2011 Fourth of July celebration While the parade is free, tickets are required for entrance to the fireworks display at Veterans Field. Donations for fireworks tickets are one of the celebration’s largest sources of income. Ticket sales cover the evening’s entertainment, which will begin at 6 p.m. The fireworks will begin at dark. Ticket proceeds also cover the bands in the parade, and additional security and traffic control. For many years, the cost of tickets remained the same while costs increased. This year, the committee has increased ticket prices -- a decision the committee made reluctantly in the face of rising costs. To keep the ticket prices as reasonable as possible, while covering costs, presales of tickets are being made available through a wide range of local businesses. Tickets to the evening entertainment and fireworks are now on sale. Purchase tickets in advance for $8. The price at the gate will be $15. Children ages five and under will be admitted free of charge.
