The ordinance was introduced at a work session convened a special public meeting. “We’re trying to fix a problem which remained from the other parking ordinance, to be better organized with our new parking,” Mayor Keith Killion said. During the lengthy debate over the new parking ordinance adopted a few weeks ago, village citizens pointed out that overlap between the old and new ordinance left a certain inconsistency that the amended ordinance would eliminate. The ordinance introduced last week aims to prohibit parking in any public parking lot between the hours of 2 a.m. and 6 a.m. In the four public parking lots designated for overnight permit parking for Ridgewood residents, the updated hours would be from 11 p.m. until 6 a.m. The updated ordinance would also amend the parking for village employees in the Ridgewood Village Hall and library parking lot to state that the yellow lined stalls are designated for employee parking. Ridgewood’s parking needs, debated by merchants, residents, and the council and administration, have gone through a number of permutations. Most recently, a plan for a multi-tiered parking garage at Walnut Street off Franklin Avenue had been planned to the point were easements were acquired. However, plans were dropped because a majority of the council members at that time considered the multitiered garage to be an eyesore. J. KOSTER
