Concert to feature music of Buddy Holly The Sunday Performance Series at the Ridgewood Public Library will feature “The Rave On Band Celebrates Buddy Holly” on Sunday, June 12 at 3 p.m. Rave On! will present hits including “That’ll Be The Day,” “Peggy Sue,” “Not Fade Away,” “Oh Boy,” “It’s So Easy” and “Rave On!” along with other classic early rock songs. Come listen to the music that influenced The Beatles, The Rolling Stones, Bob Dylan, Bruce Springsteen, and other artists. Suggested donation is $3. The library is located at 125 North Maple Avenue. Golf Outing benefit set The Ridgewood YMCA will hold its 38th Annual Golf Outing on Monday, Sept. 19 at the Knickerbocker Country Club in Tenafly. Proceeds from the event will support the Ridgewood YMCA’s Good Works Programs. The event will conclude with the annual Park Avenue BMW Putt-Off Contest. Through its Good Works Programs, the Ridgewood Y meets community needs and serves everyone, regardless of ability to pay. Examples of the Ridgewood Y’s Good Works Programs include Living Strong, Living Well, a strength and conditioning program for cancer patients and survivors; Delay the Disease, a program designed to introduce the benefits of exercise to people with Parkinson’s Disease; and Rainbows, providing peer support for children who have suffered a painful family loss. Learn to manage heart failure The Valley Hospital, Department of Community Health, will host a free program, “Heart to Heart: A Heart Failure Community Outreach Program” on Tuesday, June 14, at 6:30 p.m., at The Dorothy B. Kraft Center, 15 Essex Road
in Paramus. This free program is designed for those suffering from heart failure and their caretakers. The program will offer help on managing heart failure and improving the quality of life of the patient. Nurse practitioners/clinicians will be on hand to answer questions and clarify selfcare management. Registration is required. Fly Fishers offer clinic The Joan Wulff Fly Fishers will offer a free fly casting clinic on Thursday, June 2 at Graydon Pool, located at Maple and Linwood avenues in Ridgewood. The clinic will begin at 6:30 p.m. and continue until dark. The public is invited, in particular women and girls (age 12 and older). Equipment will be provided, or participants may bring their own gear. The program will be led by Federation of Fly Fishers Certified Instructors. For more information, contact kelly@jwffclub.org or rich@jwffclub.org. ASD fitness classes available The Ridgewood YMCA, in cooperation with The Daniel Jordan Fiddle Foundation, will offer F.I.T. Together, a fitness independence training program for adolescents and young adults ages 16 to 30 affected by Autism Spectrum Disorder. The program will run from July 11 through Aug. 19, with classes on Mondays from 6 to 7 p.m. and Fridays from 6:30 to 7:30 p.m. Classes will be held at the Ridgewood YMCA at 112 Oak Street in Ridgewood. F.I.T. is a small group step aerobics exercise class specifically designed to improve participants’ fitness, coordination, socialization, self-confidence, and independence. Each participant is paired with a volunteer peer mentor for support and encouragement. The program is for those with ASD who have sufficient communication and self-help skills to independently participate. The cost of the six-week program is $90. YMCA membership is required for participation. The deadline for registration is July 1.

Family Fun Night to feature bluegrass band The Ridgewood Public Library will host a Family Fun Night on Friday, June 10 at 7 p.m. featuring the bluegrass group “Blue Plate Special.” The program, sponsored by the Friends of the Library, will be held in the library’s Belcher Auditorium and is ideal for families and children of all ages. The program is free for Ridgewood and KidsCard holders. There is a suggested donation of $3 for attendees from other communities. Blue Plate Special, a lively combo of banjo, mandolin, guitar, bass, and fiddle, serves up a variety of bluegrass, swing, and American music perfect for all ages. Register for the Y’s summer session Registration for the Ridgewood YMCA summer 2011 session will open on Monday, June 13 at 8:30 a.m. Classes for the eight-week session will run from June 27 through Aug. 20. The Y offers a host of classes and programs for the entire family, including swimming lessons, strength training, yoga, Pilates, and Reiki. There are family enrichment classes for young children, and youth sports classes that include soccer, basketball, karate, and tennis. Registration is under way for summer camp 2011. Programs are available are Y’s Kidz, ages three through six; Camp Pamacka, ages six through 13; Teen Trip, ages 12 through 15; Pre-Summer Fun Camp, June 20 through 24; and Baton Twirl and Dance Sampler, ages six and up.
