‘Deathly Hallows’ brings popular franchise to a close
by Dennis Seuling Ten years and eight movies after the first blockbuster opened in theaters, the Harry Potter saga has finally come to a close. The eagerly anticipated “Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows, Part 2” immediately broke records for biggest one-day box office gross and biggest opening weekend gross, with the crowds at the multiplex representing both diehard Harry fans and casual moviegoers. Because computer generated visuals no longer automatically thrill, it’s harder to captivate a jaded audience, but director David Yates manages some real cinematic magic by integrating the computer images with live actors in ways that serve the plot rather than overwhelm it.
