Ridgewood
RHS students participate in Governor’s Schools
After a grueling, multi-tiered selection process, the following Ridgewood High School juniors have been selected to participate in the 2011 Governor’s Schools: Chongsuh (Dan) Chun, School of the Sciences at Drew University; Ashley Ellis, School of Engineering at Rutgers University; and Victoria Pan, School of the Sciences at Drew University. Each summer, the New Jersey Department of Education hosts a series of elite and rigorous Governor’s Schools. The purpose of the program is to provide gifted eleventh grade students with a unique and exciting learning experience. Each academic Governor’s School emphasizes teamwork, research, information gathering, and synthesis of information. In addition to the daily arduous academic aspect of the schools, the students experience, many for the first time, dorm life. Independence, prioritizing their work load and free time activities, and getting along with roommates and classmates are all an integral part of this stimulating experience. For each of the 30 years the program has been available, students from Ridgewood High School have been selected to participate, even in light of recent drastic funding cuts.
