Starting this fall, Glen Rock Television will begin collaborating with the board of education to televise board meetings. The board and GRTV have been working toward the goal of televising the meetings, but needed to work with attorneys, volunteers, and district employees to develop a high quality product. “We needed to work out the logistics of the space and have attorney approval since children are involved in meetings,” said Rona McNabola, board of education president. The board of education meets in the high school library, where the layout and acoustics are not conducive to taping. School board meetings and agendas have always been public, but now residents will have the ability to view the sessions at their leisure from home. The agenda is posted to www.glenrocknj.org the Friday before each meeting. The public and the board receive the same agenda complete with attachments. Announcements of meeting dates are also released to the local news media. Changes to meetings and additional meetings are posted to the website. To help bring the meetings to television, GRTV Education Director Ken Butts worked with Dr. David Verducci and McNabola to help all parties understand what was involved and even helped to identify unused microphones owned by the borough. The board of education’s media technician, Jim Warren, was able to patch those microphones into the audio board to enhance the sound quality in the

library. Meetings will air on Cablevision Channel 77 and Verizon FiOS Channel 32 the second Tuesday after each meeting. The eight-day turnaround is due to transferring the tape to another digital format, editing, and adding titles on the screen. Each meeting will be taped from beginning to end and archived. In the event that the board takes a break during a meeting, any dead space may be deleted during editing in order to shorten the program for viewers at home. “We feel the community does not need to see an empty room on television for 15 minutes during a meeting break,” Butts said. An additional part of the collaboration between GRTV and the board is student involvement. Students will help in the taping and production of the meetings, giving students the opportunity to be involved in the board meetings and gain experience in television production. “With the addition of student producers and camera people, GRTV has hit another one of our milestones. We look forward to the day when GRTV is officially incorporated into the schools curriculum and is a part of our students’ education,” said Station Director Byron Arnao. The meetings will begin airing on Sept. 6, with the Aug. 29 meeting being the first to air. In the future, the meetings will be archived on the board of education website and a link to the programs may also be available on the borough website. Glen Rock Television is a 24-hour independent public access not-for-profit channel dedicated to serving the Borough of Glen Rock by bringing residents local updates, coverage of borough meetings and events, and other community programming. GRTV is staffed solely by volunteer residents of Glen Rock. Monthly public meetings are held on the first Wednesday evening of each month in the third floor conference room of borough all. Anyone interested in volunteering or underwriting programs is asked to send an e-mail to grtv@glenrocknj.net. To learn more, visit www.glenrocknj. net/about/media/index.php.
