With 300 runners expected, this year will once again prove to be a great way to celebrate health and fitness with Hamilton families and the greater community. The day will include a sanctioned 5K Run, a 5K Walk, and a one-mile Fun Run with lots of games and activities for the whole family throughout the morning. Participants may register online by visiting http://hamiltonhsa.com/Hamilton5K.aspx. Pre-registration costs are $25 for the 5K, $15 for the 5K Walk, and $5 per participant for the Fun Run. Voter registration drive set A voter registration drive will be held on Saturday, Aug. 6 from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. on Rock Road in Glen Rock. Assistance with voter registration and mail-in applications will be available. Forms available are: voter registration form (in English and Spanish), vote by mail application (in English and Spanish), party declaration form (in English and Spanish), and active uniformed service members and U.S. citizens living overseas -- voter registration/absentee ballot application (English only). Voters are encouraged to stop by and pick up mail-in applications. Oct. 18 is the registration deadline to vote in the general election on Nov. 8. The drive is sponsored by Howard Fox. Tree campaign under way The Glen Rock Tree Trust announced it is nearing its goal for the 11 Neighbors 11 Trees campaign, the group’s year long effort of the Glen Rock Tree Trust to raise funds to plant 11 trees on public land throughout Glen Rock in memory of the 11 Glen Rock residents who died on Sept. 11, 2001. To date the trust has received donations or pledges of trees from Cub Scout Pack 1, the Hamilton School Home School Association, the Girl Scouts of Glen Rock, PSEG, The Environmental Club of Central School and several individuals. The Trust is looking for contributions from individuals of any size and is seeking donations from organizations that might want to underwrite the cost of a tree. The trees will planted in time for the tenth anniversary of 9-11. Each tree costs $200. Library hosts teen book discussions Teens are invited to the informal book discussions at the Glen Rock Public Library. Sessions meet every other Monday at 7:30 p.m. and are designed for teens to express their reactions to an eclectic selection of works. Each month will feature one graphic novel and one text novel. This opportunity to explore some of the most revered teen titles is supported by the Friends of the Glen Rock Public Library. Sign-up sheets and copies of the books are located at the reference desk. Expanded WiFi, scanning services available Glen Rock Public Library patrons may now enjoy expanded WiFi service at the library and free scanning capability. The library now has an improved WiFi signal, which should eliminate “dead zones.” The service signal now reaches to all four corners of the library’s main floor. The library recently installed a digital scanner. Patrons may now scan documents free of charge to one of the library’s public iMacs, then edit, save, e-mail, print, or share the digital copies. Printed copies are 10 cents per page for black and white, and 25 cents per page for color. Visit the library at 315 Rock Road, Glen Rock. Group seeks new members The M.O.T.H.E.R.S. group of Saint Catharine’s parish welcomes new members. The group, which is open to working and stay-at-home moms with children of all ages, provides support, knowledge, and friendships while promoting a sense of community. Events for children, families, and couples take place throughout the school year, including programs for moms both with and without their children. Spiritual and social events include playgroups, book club, yoga, recipe groups, and spring socials. M.O.T.H.E.R.S. also is involved with charitable works in the community. Patrons can now protect borrowed items from snow and rain with reusable library totes. The library is joining the Green Up Glen Rock movement by making these bags available to patrons. The library has long been promoting recycling by allowing patrons to reuse books, recorded books, music, and videos. Some items have been borrowed more than 100 times. They are now expanding the green effort by allowing patrons to recycle by using library totes. The library will no longer supply plastic bags. Reusable totes will be the only option. Tote bag sales are self-supporting. The Glen Rock Public Library is located at 315 Rock Road. 4-H announces Knitting/Crocheting Club The 4-H Knitting/Crocheting Club meets at the Glen Rock Library, 315 Rock Road in Glen Rock, on the first and third Monday of the month at 5:30 p.m. Materials are provided.
