July 13, 2011 THE VILLADOM TIMES II • Page 17 Glen Rock Roundup Outdoor Shakespeare performance coming up Shakespeare’s “Love’s Labour’s Lost” will be performed on the lawn of the Glen Rock Public Library, 315 Rock Road, on Sunday, July 17 at 6:30 p.m. In the event of rain, the production will be performed inside the library. The Shakespeare Theatre of New Jersey The Next Stage Ensemble, will present the abridged production of this pastoral comedy. The program is underwritten by the Glen Rock Savings Bank to benefit the Friends of the Glen Rock Library, and is appropriate for attendees age 12 and above. The event is produced under the auspices of the Glen Rock Arts Council. Reservations are required. Tickets are available at the library. General admission, open seating tickets are $5 per person. The cost for Friends members is $4. Patron status with reserved seating and listing in the program journal is $10 per person. ESL offered at library The Glen Rock Library’s two ESL (English as a Second Language) discussion groups meet each week through June. These informal sessions use the monthly “Easy English News.” Both sessions are led by Glen Rock volunteers Shona Perry, who facilitates the group on Mondays from 1 to 2 p.m., and Kate Mowlem, who leads the group on Wednesdays from 7:30 to 8:30 p.m. The library is located at 315 Rock Road. For information, call (201) 670-3970. Library hosts teen book discussions Teens are invited to the informal book discussions at the Glen Rock Public Library. Sessions meet every other Monday at 7:30 p.m. and are designed for teens to express their reactions to an eclectic selection of works. Each month will feature one graphic novel and one text novel. This opportunity to explore some of the most revered teen titles is supported by the Friends of the Glen Rock Public Library. Sign-up sheets and copies of the books are located at the reference desk. Expanded WiFi, scanning services available Glen Rock Public Library patrons may now enjoy expanded WiFi service at the library and free scanning capability. The library now has an improved WiFi signal, which should eliminate “dead zones.” The service signal now reaches to all four corners of the library’s main floor. The library recently installed a digital scanner. Patrons may now scan documents free of charge to one of the library’s public iMacs, then edit, save, e-mail, print, or share the digital copies. Printed copies are 10 cents per page for black and white, and 25 cents per page for color. Visit the library at 315 Rock Road, Glen Rock. Group seeks new members The M.O.T.H.E.R.S. group of Saint Catharine’s parish welcomes new members. The group, which is open to working and stay-at-home moms with children of all ages, provides support, knowledge, and friendships while promoting a sense of community. Events for children, families, and couples take place throughout the school year, including programs for moms both with and without their children. Spiritual and social events include playgroups, book club, yoga, recipe groups, and spring socials. M.O.T.H.E.R.S. also is involved with charitable works in the community. Library offers reusable tote bags The Glen Rock Public Library is offering reusable library tote bags at the circulation desk for $2 each. Patrons can now protect borrowed items from snow and rain with reusable library totes. The library is joining the Green Up Glen Rock movement by making these bags available to patrons. The library has long been promoting recycling by allowing patrons to reuse books, recorded books, music, and videos. Some items have been borrowed more than 100 times. They are now expanding the green effort by allowing patrons to recycle by using library totes. The library will no longer supply plastic bags. Reusable totes will be the only option. Tote bag sales are self-supporting. The Glen Rock Public Library is located at 315 Rock Road. 4-H program announces Knitting/Crocheting Club The 4-H Knitting/Crocheting Club meets at the Glen Rock Library, 315 Rock Road in Glen Rock, on the first and third Monday of the month at 5:30 p.m. Materials are provided. The Rutgers Cooperative Extension 4-H Youth Development program uses a learn-by-doing approach to enable youth to develop the knowledge, attitudes, and skills they need to become competent, caring, and contributing citizens. This mission is accomplished by using the knowledge and resources of the land-grant university system, along with the involvement of caring adults. New leader Steve Beiter, immediate past president of the Glen Rock Activities Club, receives a plaque of appreciation from Gordon Wallace, newly elected president, for his contributions to the club during his past two-year term. The Activities Club is a group of retired and semi-retired men involved in 23 varied social, educational, scientific, and athletic activities. The club meets on the third Tuesday of the month from September through May. The next major social activity will be the Fall Frolic, and music listening and dance event which will be held on Sept. 24 at the Community Church.
