Ridgewood January 26, 2011 THE VILLADOM TIMES II • Page 5 Village shares and saves with municipal neighbors by John Koster The Ridgewood Village Council recently voted to institute or to continue shared services with a number of neighboring communities. The council approved a shared services agreement with the Northwest Bergen County Utilities Authority for TV inspection of the sanitary sewer systems at 72 cents a foot in 2011 and 74 cents a foot in 2012. Ridgewood has authorized a shared services agreement for the services of a health officer with the Borough of Fair Lawn at $7,900 for 2011. Glen Rock and Ridgewood will continue to share the services of the tub grinder used to turn branches into mulch on a 50-50 basis. This agreement has been in operation for decades. Ridgewood will share adult health clinic services with the Borough of Ho-Ho-Kus. Ridgewood will provide the nursing staff, with a cost of $1,381 charged to Ho-HoKus. Ridgewood will provide a child health clinic to the Borough of Glen Rock for preschool medical checkups and immunizations at a cost not to exceed $1,875 billed to Glen Rock. Leonard Eisen, a resident who regularly attends Ridgewood Council meetings, pointed to the curbside pickup that had been used during the recent massive snowfall. He suggested that switching to curbside HUD8773_IRA_R7:NJ_IRA_Villa_5_012611 1/19/11 10:58 AM Page 1 pickup (rather than the rear-yard collection now in place) on a regular basis could also save Ridgewood a substantial amount of money. Council members acknowledged the resident’s comments, but did not expand on Eisen’s suggestion at that time.
