The group was formed by prostate cancer patients to share information and experience about available treatment and service resources. The group does not offer or give medical advice, only insight, information, and support. Research has shown that peer support groups during critical health crises may improve both survival rate and quality of life. The church is located at 271 West Saddle River Road. Deutsch entertains at Woman’s Club lunch Nina Deutsch, pianist, singer, and speaker, will discuss the music and personalities of the great Broadway composers including Gershwin, Rodgers, Kern, and Berlin, and living composer Bob Dylan at the Feb. 16 luncheon of The Woman’s Club of Ridgewood. The program, which will be held at 215 West Ridgewood Avenue in Ridgewood, is sponsored by the Horizons Speakers Bureau of the New Jersey Council for the Humanities, a state partner of the National Endowment for the Humanities. The club will hold a business meeting at 11:30 a.m. followed by a catered lunch at noon. The program will begin after lunch. O’Toole fundraiser set The annual cocktail reception honoring Senator Kevin O’Toole will be held on Wednesday, Feb. 16 from 6:30 to 8:30 p.m. The event will be held at Il Tulipano, 1131 Pompton Avenue in Cedar Grove. Governor Chris Christie will be the special guest. Tickets are $250. Proceeds will benefit the Election Fund of Kevin J. O’Toole. Music scholarship applications available Scholarship applications are now available for the 20th Annual Walter Engel Festival of Young Performers. The scholarships are awarded every year to high school seniors who perform at the festival and whose musical skills and participation in community outreach set them apart from their peers. The festival will be held April 2 at the Unitarian Society of Ridgewood, 113 Cottage Place in Ridgewood. The festival celebrates the musical gifts of young performers, providing a non-competitive performance venue for elementary, middle, and high school students from all over northern New Jersey. The concerts feature classical music performed by singers, pianists, and other instrumentalists ranging from beginning through advanced levels. Scholarships are awarded every year to high school seniors who perform at the festival and whose musical skills and participation in community outreach are deemed outstanding. Engel, who died in 2007, touched the lives of countless individuals through the Festival of Young Performers and his earlier work as a teacher and conductor. Scott to present history lecture Autumn Wind Scott will present “The People of the Slanting Rock” at the Mahwah Museum on Thursday, Feb. 10 at 7:30 p.m. Through photos and artifacts, Scott will relate the story of New Jersey’s aboriginal people. Chair of the New Jersey State Commission on American Indian Affairs, Scott is a member of the Ramapough Lenape Nation. She has served her community officially since 1999 as a member of the New Jersey State Commission on American Indian Affairs. Appointed in early 2007 by Governor Corzine, Scott has been an activist for American Indian rights for over 20 years. She is a lecturer and a producer and coordinator of American Indian events. Admission to Scott’s lecture is $3 per person; free for Mahwah Museum members. Refreshments will be served.
