Luthcke and Sanzari promoted to new positions
by John Koster The Ridgewood Village Council formally recognized the promotions of Treasurer Stephen Sanzari to the position of chief financial officer and of Ridgewood Police Department Lieutenant Jacqueline Luthcke to the rank of police captain. Sanzari, who holds a degree in finance and accounting from Fairleigh Dickinson University, has worked in Ridgewood municipal government for 26 years. Ridgewood’s Village Manager Kenneth Gabbert assumed the title of chief financial officer and accepted a pro-rated stipend of $25,000 per year in addition to his regular salary when he assumed the CFO responsibility in May, and will now relinquish the remainder of the stipend since he no longer holds the position. He told the council that $16,000 to $17,000 had been consumed and that the remainder will be returned to the community. Sanazari, at least for the present, will retain the title of treasurer along with his new title of chief financial officer. There was no immediate increase in Sanzari’s salary. “We get the most we can for our money,” Gabbert said. Sanzari succeeds Dorothy Stickna, who retired as Ridgewood’s CFO early in 2010. the responsibilities for years. Captain Luthcke, a graduate of Ridgewood High School and Ohio University, has been a Ridgewood police officer for 15 years. She has taken a number of courses in police work in addition to her academic and police background. She is widely respected by her peers on the police department for her professionalism. Mayor Keith Killion, a former police captain and chief of detectives, abstained from voting to approve her appointment only because he promised to abstain from voting on all police-related matters. The council subsequently introduced an ordinance that will be considered for adoption on Feb. 9. The proposed ordinance would change the wording of the police department’s table of organization to permit “not more than two captains in the department.”
