Page 2 THE VILLADOM TIMES I, II, III & IV • January 12, 2011 Villadom Happenings Northwest Democrats to meet The Northwest Bergen Democratic Saturday AM Group will hold its bi-monthly meeting on Saturday, Jan. 15 from 8:45 to 10 a.m. at Panera Bread in Ramsey on Route 17 North. This month’s agenda will include discussion on the current political climate in North Jersey and organizing future activities in anticipation of the 2011 elections. The public is invited to attend and new members are encouraged to attend. Members come from towns including Mahwah, Ramsey, Ridgewood, Franklin Lakes, Wyckoff, and Oakland, but anyone from Bergen County is welcome. There is no charge. The Northwest Bergen Democratic Saturday AM Group is a newly-formed group of Democrats and others interested in talking about politics and then taking action. Hermitage to host encampment, lecture The members of Company B, 2nd Rhode Island Volunteers, will stage a special winter encampment on the grounds of the Hermitage National Historic Landmark on the weekend of Jan. 15 and 16, from 1 to 4 p.m. The unit will set up the outdoor Winter Encampment regardless of the presence of snow. In fact, they are hoping for snow to add to the realism of their living history portrayal of the hardships encountered by soldiers during the Civil War. On display will be tents in which soldiers endured the harsh elements, and other displays of winter provisions. In addition, there will be indoor displays of Civil War artifacts, and hands-on activities for families with children to learn more about this important era. Entry to the Winter Encampment is included with regular admission to the museum: $7 for adults; $5 for seniors; and $4 for children. Museum members and children under six years of age are admitted free. On Jan. 12 at 7:30 p.m., Dr. Henry Bischoff, professor emeritus at Ramapo College and The Hermitage’s official historian, will begin the History Lecture Series with “A New Wave of Immigration in New Jersey, Diversity and Vitality, 1940-2009.” He will discuss immigration in New Jersey, and the impact of diversity on the economy, social structure, culture, religion, education, and politics. The lecture will be held in The Hermitage’s Education Center, Jaqua Hall, 335 North Franklin Turnpike in Ho-HoKus. Reservations are requested. Tickets are $5. Checks may be made payable to Friends of The Hermitage. Refreshments will follow the lecture. For more information, call (201) 445-8311. West Bergen presents Comedy Night The Friends of West Bergen Mental Healthcare will host Comedy Night at the Ridgewood Knights of Columbus, 31 South Broad Street in Ridgewood, on Friday, Feb. 4 at 6:30 p.m. Proceeds will benefit the West Bergen Center for Children and Youth in Ramsey. The evening will be hosted by Matt Liebman, who has performed at the Laugh Factory in New York City and was a finalist in the American Eagle Funniest Comic National Competition. Davin Rosenblatt of SideSplitting Productions will be featured. Rosenblatt has been seen on Comedy Central, the YES Network, and New Jersey News 12, and has performed overseas for troops in Iraq, Japan, Korea, and Kuwait. The evening will include dinner catered by A&A Fine Foods of Lincoln Park (BYOB) and dessert. Tickets are $50 per person and are tax deductible. Seating is limited. Children’s theater to be presented The Junior Woman’s Club of Ridgewood will offer a children’s theater event on Sunday, Jan. 16 at Benjamin Franklin Middle School, 335 North Van Dien Avenue in Ridgewood at 1 p.m. Theatreworks USA will present the musical revue “If You Give a Mouse a Cookie & Other Story Books.” Performed by a multi-racial cast, the stories represent various issues, themes, and ideas relevant to a diverse audience of children in kindergarten through fourth grade. All seats are $18 in advance and $20 at the door. Proceeds will benefit local charities for women and children. Learn about bats of New Jersey On Jan. 25, the Bergen County Master Gardeners will host Conserve Wildlife Foundation of New Jersey biologist MacKenzie Hall at 7:30 p.m. at the County Administration Building, One Bergen Plaza, County Place, Hackensack.
