Through a series of postures, exercises, and games, participants improve flexibility, balance, and strength, and learn to regulate emotions and release stress. Classes will be held at the Stable, located at 259 North Maple Avenue. Elementary yoga for children in grades two through five will be held on Thursdays from 3:45 to 4:45 p.m. beginning March 10. Yoga for middle school students will meet on Tuesdays from 3:45 to 4:45 p.m. beginning March 8. High school students will have class on Wednesdays from 3:45 to 4:45 p.m. beginning March 9. The cost for each session is $75 for six classes. Participants should bring a mat and wear comfortable clothing. Call (201) 6705560 for details. ‘Shabbat across America’ set Temple Israel and Jewish Community Center of Ridgewood will host “Shabbat across America” on Friday, March 4 at 6:30 p.m. The Kabbalat Shabbat (Welcome to Shabbat) service will be followed by dinner at 7:30 p.m. Non-members of Temple Israel are especially welcome. This event represents a united effort by the entire Jewish community to renew interest in the fourth of the Ten Commandments: observing a weekly day of rest, Shabbat. Temple Israel is one of about 700 synagogues across the continent that will open its doors to practicing and nonpracticing Jews alike, so they may join together to experience and rejoice in a traditional Shabbat service and festive meal. Services will be led by Rabbi David J. Fine and Cantor Caitlin Bromberg. Attendees will experience a Friday night service and a traditional Shabbat dinner with all the rituals explained. A special feature of this event will be a discussion in which many participants will share their family Shabbat memories. The discussion period will follow dinner, during which child care will be provided. The Shabbat across America dinner is $10 per adult, $6 for children six to 12, and free of charge for children five years old and younger. The maximum price for a family is $36. The schedule of performers is as follows: 11 a.m., Drew Kreismer; noon, Richard Frey; 1:15 p.m., David Tisbert, organist from Saint Thomas the Apostle R.C. Church in Oak Ridge; 2 p.m., Randall Svane, organist at Christ Church in Ridgewood; and 2:30 p.m., David Rutherford, Esquire of Ridgewood. At 3 p.m., Cynthia Mizeski, organist at First Presbyterian Church of North Arlington in Kearny will perform. She will be followed by a 3:30 p.m. vocal recital with students from Jefferson Township High School. At 4 p.m., Jonathan Evers and friends from Montclair State University will perform; and at 5 p.m., James Wynne from United Methodist Church in Ridgewood will appear. OLMC MOMs to host events The OLMC MOMs at Our Lady of Mount Carmel Church will host an Ash Wednesday Prayer Service and Meatless Dinner on March 9 at 5:30 p.m. Ashes will be distributed in the church; dinner will follow in the parish center. The cost is $5 per person or $20 maximum per family. Lent is a time to slow down and enter into the season that God has prepared. Simplify Ash Wednesday by joining the MOMs parish family. A bowling fundraiser to support The Nurturing Place is planned for Sunday, March 27 from 2 to 4 p.m. at Brunswick Lanes, Fair Lawn. The cost is $13.50 per family member. Children under age four will be admitted free. The event will include two hours of bowling, rental shoes, pizza, and drinks for each family. The group asks each family to add a voluntary donation amount to the total price and/or bring one of the following items: a package of diapers, wipes, pack of paper towels, box of Cheerios, or baby food. Employment workshop scheduled On Sunday, Feb. 27 at 1 p.m., Our Lady of Mount Carmel Church’s Career Resources Ministry will continue its effort to provide help to people seeking employment. This session will be the first of a four-part series of workshops and will be held in the meeting room in the lower church. The program is open to anyone seeking employment and those who anticipate possible unemployment. Parish membership is not required. Workshops are presented by the Career Resources Ministry, whose members are dedicated to helping people who are seeking employment. Professionals in the field will present the workshop and will be on hand to give advice. The Feb. 27 workshop topic is “Create Your Communications Strategy and Résumé.” Participants should bring a recent résumé or job experience information. Anyone interested is welcome to attend.
