All schedules will remain the same: Sunday school will start at 9:30, followed by worship at 10:30. Communion and the coffee hour will follow immediately after service. Central School, located at 600 Maple Avenue, is barrier-free. A Good Shepherd sign will be on the entrance to the building. All other activities from Monday to Saturday will be at church. Kindergarten registration to begin The Glen Rock School District has announced that kindergarten registration packets, including residency and age requirements, health forms, and additional information are available at the Glen Rock Public Library, 315 Rock Road and online at www.glenrocknj.org. Kindergarten registration for all incoming students will be held at the Glen Rock Public Library on Thursday, March 10 from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. and Friday, March 11 from 9 a.m. to 11:30 p.m. No appointments are necessary. All registrations will be treated equally, with no “first come, first served” preference given with regard to placement. Parents are asked to complete all forms prior to registration and to bring appropriate original proof of residency and birth date in order to expedite the process. School administrators and nursing personnel will be on hand to answer questions. Interested families will also be able to register for the Glen Rock Community School’s Kindergarten Plus enrichment program at the same time. Kindergarten registration is open to all resident children who will turn five years of age on or before Oct. 1, 2011. Two proofs of residency are required (e.g., driver’s license, rent or mortgage receipt, utility bill, or tax bill) along with proof of identity and age (e.g. birth certificate, baptismal certificate, or passport). Kindergarten orientation meetings will be scheduled before the opening of school; updated information will be continually posted on the district website. Anti-drug program offered to teens, parents The religious communities of Glen Rock, in association with D.A.R.E. and The SOURCE of Glen Rock, will offer an anti-drug program to teens and parents on Sunday, Feb. 27 at 7:30 p.m. at the Glen Rock Jewish Center, 682 Harristown Road. The program will feature a Bergen County 19-year-old recovering from drug addiction, who will speak about his experiences. The young man will talk about his high school drug abuse, which culminated in his arrest last year for dealing narcotics on his college campus. The young man’s mother will offering a parent’s perspective. Teens and parents are encouraged to attend this meeting. Admission is free. Community School extends kindergarten day The Glen Rock Community School will hold Kindergarten Plus registration for the 2011-12 school year in conjunction with the school district’s regular kindergarten registration on Thursday, March 10 from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. and Friday, March 11 from 9 to 11:30 a.m. Registration will take place at the Glen Rock Library. The Kindergarten Plus program extends a child’s half-day of kindergarten to a full school day. The program supports the work of the Glen Rock School District and its kindergarten curriculum through enrichment activities including language experiences, science and nature projects, dramatics, free play, physical activities, games, music, and more. The program is run by a certified teacher who is assisted by experienced classroom aides. Children spend time outdoors each day, weather permitting. Ageappropriate field trips and special programs are an integral part of the program. Children bring their lunch every day. Transportation is provided between the program and each child’s home school, at the middle and end of the school day. Children must be enrolled in the Glen Rock Public School’s kindergarten to enroll in Kindergarten Plus. Learn about bees and beekeeping Brian Rowe, of Douglas Farms, and third vice president of New Jersey Beekeepers Association will present “Italians to Buckfast: Bee Types and Their Characteristics” at the Northeast Beekeepers Association of New Jersey meeting Friday, Feb. 18 at 7:30 p.m., 687 South Maple Avenue, Glen Rock. Learn about lilacs Master Gardener Dr. Edith Wallace will present an illustrated program, “Lovely Lilacs: From Skylands to Your Garden,” to the Glen Rock Garden Club on Tuesday, Feb 15 at 7:45 p.m. Dr. Wallace will discuss selecting, planting, and caring for lilacs. She is a biology professor emeritus at William Paterson University, and has been co-coordinator of the Lilac Garden Restoration Project at the New Jersey Botanical Gardens/Skylands for 13 years. She is certified in three different aspects of plant science by the New York Botanical Garden Department of Continuing Education. The program, which is open to the public, will be held in the Glen Rock Municipal Annex at 678 Maple Avenue. Refreshments will be served. Liman to address Activities Club The Activities Club will host artist Peter Liman Feb. 15 at 1:30 p.m. The meeting will be held in Fellowship Hall at the Community Church in Glen Rock. Liman will present “The Catskill House and the World around It.” This film tells the story of America’s first mountaintop hotel, romantic tourism of the region, the Hudson River School of Art, and Catskill Mountain music. Gallagher to perform benefit concert Children’s entertainer Kurt Gallagher will perform on Saturday, March 12 at 11 a.m. The program will be held in Fellowship Hall at the Community Church of Glen Rock. The concert will benefit The Glen Rock Co-Operative School’s Jean Brennan Scholarship Fund. Gallagher, an innovative performer, gets his audience moving and laughing.
