Holland Christian Home names Mahoney administrator
The Holland Christian Home has announced that Janet Mahoney, LNHA has been appointed to the position of administrator of the Continuing Care Retirement Community. Mahoney, whose career in long-term care began as a dietary aide while in college, is a graduate of the gerontology degree program at Molly College in Rockville Centre, New York. Her experience, prior to earning her administrator credentials, included serving as the director of social services at several health care facilities in the region. It is this background that speaks to Mahoney’s philosophy of resident-centered service. She has held the leadership role in major, highly-rated sub-acute and long-term care centers. “From my first tour of the Holland Christian Home, I knew it was a special place – unlike any I’ve ever been associated with,” Mahoney stated. “I look forward to a long, productive leadership role. The members of
the board of directors are true stewards of the Holland Christian Home’s legacy, focusing on the mission of providing the best possible care and environment for our residents.” Mahoney lives in Sparta with her husband of 30 years, Brian. They have two college-student sons.

On April 12, the Midland Park Branch of the Valley Hospital Auxiliary’s Fashion Show fundraiser will feature fresh looks from the hospital’s Kurth Cottage Gift Shop. Thanks to the shop’s Manager/Buyer Andrea Delmonte, the selection of fashions at Kurth Cottage Gift Shop has been updated and retooled, so the auxiliary’s fundraiser promises to be better than ever. Now in her eighth year at Kurth Cottage Gift Shop, Delmonte began her career as a buyer and merchandiser with Federated Department Stores. She also worked in management at several other well-known national specialty and department stores in Boston, Washington, D.C., and Atlanta. “I have bought for the world,” Delmonte said. Eight years ago, she decided to make the move to Valley, which Delmonte calls, “the most rewarding and

the best employer.” Although Kurth Cottage Gift Shop is known for its selection of plush toys, fresh flower arrangements, and sundries, Delmonte has used her background in fashion to add the Chic Boutique to the shop. Delmonte selects items that appeal to a wide-range of people, and her customers give her “reviews” every day. Thus far, hospital visitors and employees who patronize Kurth Cottage Gift Shop have provided Delmonte with positive feedback about the clothing being offered. “I have a sense of what sells in various regions of the country,” she explained. At the auxiliary fashion shows, Delmonte gives out coupons to be used at Kurth Cottage Gift Shop. She notes that the shows raise awareness for the gift shop’s mission and offerings, which include unique items at fair prices.
“The shows are fun and entertaining,” Delmonte noted, adding that after one recent show, an attendee told her, “When you were finished, I was sorry you were done!” Delmonte takes care to select clothing that appeals to people from all walks of life, ages, and body types. Those who attend the fashion shows enjoy seeing their friends work the runway, reap the benefit of seeing a variety of fashions without having to travel to multiple locations, and receive coupons for the gift shop. Models may choose the outfits that appeal to their personal taste, so they feel great as they come down the catwalk. Delmonte helps each woman look great by accessorizing each look. Delmonte noted that the local auxiliaries and the shop are “sisters,” adding,
