Page 4 THE VILLADOM TIMES II • February 9, 2011 Ridgewood Ridgewood Symphony Orchestra to present ‘Viva Italia!’ The Ridgewood Symphony Orchestra will celebrate Italy and Italian music at a special concert set for Friday, March 4. The performance will be held at 8 p.m. at Benjamin Franklin Middle School, located at East Glen and North Van Dien avenues next door to Valley Hospital in Ridgewood. The concert will include Respighi’s “Fountains of Rome,” Albinoni’s “Adagio for Organ and Strings,” and Mendelssohn’s “Symphony No. 4 in A Major.” The featured soloist, soprano Anya Fidelia, will perform selected Verdi arias from “Un Ballo in Maschera,” “La Forza del Destino,” and “Il Trovatore.” Advance tickets are $20 for adults, $15 for seniors, and $10 for students. At the door, prices will be $23, $18, and $13. “After all the strenuous winter weather we’ve had to deal with this year, it’s time for a trip to Italy,” said Manny Sosinsky, president of the Ridgewood Symphony. “This concert will give us a foretaste of spring and the opportunity to enjoy the beautiful voice of Anya Fidelia, who will perform selections from a few of Verdi’s best known operas.” Since her professional debut in 2005 at the Caramoor International Music Festival, Fidelia has presented operatic roles in New York, Philadelphia, Moscow, Saint Petersburg, and Tel Aviv. She is the winner of numerous grants and honors, including competitive awards from the Liederkranz Foundation and the Schuyler Foundation for Career Bridges. The Ridgewood Symphony is among the largest volunteer symphonies in the country, with players from 48 different municipalities in Bergen, Passaic, and Rockland counties. The orchestra is led by RSO Music Director and Conductor Arkady Leytush, who is the twelfth conductor in the RSO’s 71-year history. This season’s RSO programs are made possible in part by funds from the New Jersey State Council on the Arts/ Department of State, a Partner Agency of the National Endowment for the Arts. The Jamboree Scholarship Fund, now celebrating its 65th year, has had terrific success in raising needs-based scholarship money for graduating seniors at Ridgewood Jamboree is this week at Ben Franklin School High School. Parents and guardians of RHS students sing, dance, and act on-stage and/or work as back-stage heroes to put on a themed musical revue for the Village of Ridgewood and surrounding communities. The entire production and fundraising efforts are 100% voluntary.
