Jamboree is this week Jamboree will return to Ben Franklin Middle School, 335 North Van Dien Avenue, Ridgewood this week. Performances will be Feb. 9 through 11 at 8 p.m., and Feb. 12 at 7 p.m. For ticket information visit www.rhsjamboree.com. The Jamboree Scholarship Fund, now celebrating its 65th year, has had terrific success in raising needs-based scholarship money for graduating seniors at Ridgewood High School. Parents and guardians of RHS students sing, dance, and act on-stage and/or work as back-stage heroes to put on a themed musical revue for the Village of Ridgewood and surrounding communities. The entire production and fundraising efforts are 100% voluntary. Last year, 16 graduating RHS seniors received $96,000 in scholarship award money. Audition for College Club Capers Auditions for the College Club of Ridgewood’s Capers performance will take place on March 7 and 9 at 7 p.m. at George Washington Middle School Auditorium, 155 Washington Place in Ridgewood. Singers, actors, dancers, and set designers needed. Everyone gets a part. Performances will be held at 8 p.m. at the Ridgewood Woman’s Club on May 5 and 6. Tickets for the May 5 performance will be $12, payable at the door. On May 6, tickets will be $45, and will include the show, dinner, and DJ dancing. The Ridgewood Knights of Columbus Council 1736 will hold its annual Saint Patrick’s Dinner Dance on Saturday, March 19 at 7 p.m. in the Mount Carmel Church gym, 52 Passaic Street in Ridgewood. The Village Caterers will provide traditional Irish fare, corned beef and cabbage. Renowned New York City musicians Bob and Norm will play Irish classics and dance music. HILT seeks new members, plans events Ridgewood residents 55 and older are invited to join HILT (Highlights in Leisure Time), a senior organization under the auspices of the Ridgewood Department of Parks and Recreation. Monthly meetings include entertainment, informational presentations, and refreshments. Various trips are also offered. On Feb. 10, HILT will host an Open House for new members at the Ridgewood Community Center at Ridgewood Village Hall, 131 North Maple Avenue, from 10 a.m. to noon. Peter Fenzel, a supporter of the Concerned Citizens of Allendale (instrumental in the acquisition of the Fell House), will be the featured speaker. The Fell House, a national historic treasure, was purchased with donated funds. Fenzel will discuss John Fell’s life in Bergen County as a merchant and his involvement in the American Revolution. On Feb. 17, HILT will travel to the Hunterdon Hills Playhouse. The playhouse will celebrate its 30th anniversary with a presentation of a new musical revue entitled, “The Great American Songbook.” The program includes music and songs that immigrants brought with them from their native lands.
Travelers may board the bus at 9:30 a.m. at the Graydon Pool lot. The bus will depart at 9:45 a.m. and return at 5:30 p.m. The cost is $48 for HILT members ant $53 for nonmembers. Antiques Show and Sale slated The 66 Annual Antiques Show and Sale at Christ Church in Ridgewood will be held March 4 from 11 a.m. to 8 p.m. and March 5 from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. Over 30 dealers from the tri-state area and beyond will display antique furniture and collectibles, ranging from formal to country, including antique linens, art deco tiles and ceramics, handmade rugs, books and maps, Greek and Roman antiquities, and fine estate jewelry. Appraiser John R. Clark will appraise items on Friday and Saturday afternoon for a nominal fee. The Cottage Café, featuring Victoria Jackson Fallon Catering, will serve a full menu all day. Lunch will be served both days. On Friday evening, stay for dinner and listen to a live jazz ensemble. Admission is $7. All proceeds from ticket sales and the Cottage Café will benefit Christ Church’s outreach projects. Complimentary shuttle service to nearby parking will be provided. Children invited to February vacation camp The Ridgewood YMCA will offer School Vacation Camp for children in kindergarten through grade five from Feb. 21 through 25. The camp is open to all area children. YMCA membership is not required. School Vacation Camp at the Ridgewood Y includes swimming, arts and crafts, and special theme days. Camp will be open from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m., with extended hours available. The cost is $75 per day for Ridgewood YMCA members and $85 per day for non-members. Movie Day, Open House announced The Cooperative Nursery School of Ridgewood will host a Movie Day on Feb. 23 at the Warner Quad Movie Theater at 190 East Ridgewood Avenue in Ridgewood. The movie, “Toy Story 3,” will begin at 10 a.m. Tickets are $8 and include unlimited popcorn and drinks. Children under two years of age will be admitted free. All the proceeds will support of the school. On March 3, the Cooperative Nursery School of Ridgewood will hold an Open House from 9:30 to 11 a.m. and 12:45 to 2 p.m. The school is located at 100 Dayton Street. The co-op offers classes for children from one-and-ahalf to five years of age. Classes range from Mommy and Me to four day a week classes for four-year-olds. Kindergarten enrichment classes are also offered. The school offers morning and afternoon classes. The co-op is organized and run by parents. This enables parents to actively participate in the early learning experience. Music, physical education, field trips, indoor and outdoor play time, and an in-house library are supplements to the daily education plans. Laurie served as Eucharistic Minister, a member of the Baptism Committee and also taught religious instruction for more than 15 years. A trustee of Nativity, Russ also holds the post of chairperson for the Finance Committee and was co- manager of Nativity’s Capital Campaign in 1994. He also served as Eucharistic Minister, member of the Baptism Committee, coordinator and coach for the CYO Basketball program and is currently the coach for the third grade girls’ team. Laurie and Russ have five children: Ryan, a graduate student at Indiana University; Kristen, a graduate student at Columbia University; Connor a student at Boston College; Kelsey, a Quinnipiac student and Mackenzie, a third grader at Highland School. Russ currently serves as an honorary board member and continues to provide valuable help and guidance. Residents of Midland Park for more than 25 years, Laurie and Russ are actively involved in all aspects of community life - especially education. Laurie has held numerous posts including: vice president of the Midland Park Education Foundation; two terms as PTA president; class mother for nearly 20 years and classroom art teacher. In addition, Laurie has served as: co-chair of the Midland Park Love Fund; producer, director and coordinator of the Midland Park Players Summer Theatre Group; manager of the Godwin and Highland schools talent shows for many years and also dance teacher at In the Spotlight in Waldwick.
