Nursery school registration now open Nursery school registration for incoming two-year-olds is now open at the Glen Rock Jewish Center. Registration for three- and four-year-olds will begin Jan. 2. The state licensed pre-school offers classes for children ages two through four and afternoon kindergarten enrichment, Toddler Time (formerly Mommy and Me), and Summer Day Camp. All teachers are certified and offer a wide range of age-appropriate activities with an emphasis on self expression, individuality, and creativity. Classes in yoga and music are part of the curriculum for all age groups, and three- and four-year-olds take at least two field trips a year. The school is open from 9 a.m. to 2:45 p.m., offering half- and full-day programs, with before and after care available daily. Scheduling is flexible. Classes are filled on a first come, first served basis. Synagogue affiliation or any connection to Judaism is not necessary for participation in these programs. Book group discusses ‘Gilead’ Glen Rock Library’s “Tea at Two Book Club” will meet on Tuesday, Dec. 13 to discuss Marilynne Robinson’s “Gilead.” The group meets from 2 to 3:15 p.m. at the library at 315 Rock Road. Legion seeks Boys State candidates The Glen Rock American Legion Post 145 is seeking candidates for New Jersey Boys State 2012. Boys State is an annual citizenship program that has been held annually in New Jersey since 1946. To be eligible, boys must be Glen Rock residents and juniors in high school. Boys with outstanding character and leadership qualifications and who will have a serious attitude toward an intensive citizenship

Legion sells Entertainment Books The American Legion is offering Entertainment Books for 2012. The cost of the book is $30 and may be delivered locally or picked up anytime. The books contain discount offers, two for one offers, and $60 in A&P, Pathmark, and Waldbaum’s coupons. Proceeds from the fundraiser benefit the Veterans Home in Paramus. Glen Rock Jewish Center sets auction The community is invited to the Glen Rock Jewish Center’s Pop Culture/Sports Memorabilia and Art Auction on Saturday, Dec. 10 at the center located 682 Harristown Road. Previews will begin at 7:30 p.m., and the auction will open at 8:15 p.m. Memorabilia and art in all media and price ranges will be featured. In the past, auction items included original works by Peter Max, Marc Chagall, and Leroy Neiman, and items autographed by Bruce Springsteen, The Rolling Stones, and President Bill Clinton. Community school holds registration The Glen Rock Community School is offering Mom & Tot classes and a Terrific for Tots preschool class for the winter/spring semester 2012. Registration for Glen Rock residents will be held Dec. 6 beginning at 9 a.m. Open registration for residents of all communities will begin Dec. 7 at 9 a.m. Mom & Tot classes for toddlers (18 through 30 months) are designed to encourage speech, motor, social, and emotional skills through play and group interaction. The Terrific for Tots class for children who are two-anda-half offers a warm, nurturing environment for the child’s
early school experiences. Children have the opportunity to explore arts and crafts, music, educational games, perceptual motor activities, and listening activities. The age requirement for all classes is as of April 1, 2012. Mom & Tot classes are offered on Mondays or Wednesdays from 9:30 to 11 a.m. beginning the week of Jan. 30. Terrific for Tots will meet Thursdays and Fridays from 9:15 to11:15 a.m. beginning Jan. 26. Registration will be held at the Glen Rock Community School office, 600 Harristown Road. Mom and Tot program returns Registration for the Glen Rock Co-Op’s January “Mom and Tot” program is under way. Children participate in activities including free play, music, story time, arts and crafts, and snack. Children must be 20 months of age by Jan. 1, 2012. (continued from page 6) off the Lights project, in which members of the club turn off all the classroom lights every Friday after school. Not only did the efforts save money on the school’s electricity bill, but they also raised awareness in the student body. Now, they are implementing even more projects to reduce the school’s energy consumption and educate others. Pan has communicated with student leaders of schools to help them start their own initiatives. She also focused on youth engagement in the chapter by encouraging high school environmental groups to become more involved in the Sierra community. The students hope to ignite a powerful movement across the nation.
