Some of her accomplishments during her 10-plus years at Maplewood included partnering with local businesses and neighborhood schools to create a “Hands-On Science Series,” a writing lab, and a “trycycle” recycling project. Wald’s grant writing was instrumental in funding these and other initiatives such as rejuvenating the branch’s grounds and creating “Family Literacy Take Home Backpacks.” In her life prior to librarianship, Wald
was a social worker and co-director of Maplewood Family Resource Center. She was also the founder/director of “First Step,” an organization in Manhattan that was the first job readiness program in the U.S. for homeless and formerly homeless women. The community is invited to welcome Wald to her new post. She is reportedly looking forward to beginning work at her new library.
