Page 10 THE VILLADOM TIMES II • August 24, 2011 Glen Rock The Glen Rock Jaycees invite area residents to participate in the group’s 24th Annual Labor Day Arboretum Run on Sept. 5. “This event has something for everyone with both serious and fun runs,” said Tom Kramer, who is serving as race director for the third time. “The Arboretum Run is one of the Jaycees’ primary fundraisers used to cover the costs for all the good causes and community events that they support.” The 5K run will begin at 8:30 a.m. from the Glen Rock Pool. This run is challenging enough for the serious runner, but very achievable for even the novice runner. A unique award will be presented to the top three Glen Rock male/ female finishers. This race will be chip-timed by CompuScore and race results will be posted on the Web at www. compuscore.com for all to see. The Junior Mile will begin at 9:30 a.m. This event is a challenge for young aspiring runners who want to test their speed and endurance. The final event of the day, the Toddler Fun Run, will begin at 9:45 a.m. Registration for the race may be completed online at www.active.com (search word: Arboretum). Advance registration is $25 for the 5K race and $10 for the Junior Mile. Registration will cost an additional $5 the day of the race. All race participants receive a T-shirt and all kids who take part in the Junior Mile and Fun Run will receive a medal. Members of the Glen Rock Jaycees are Glen Rock dads who get together on a monthly basis for some camaraderie and to plan events. Glen Rock Jaycees is a registered 501(3)(c) non-profit organization that has been actively involved in the Glen Participants sought for Jaycees’ Arboretum Run Participants from a previous year’s run. The group provides support to many organizations and charities in Glen Rock and in the surrounding community, including youth sports organizations, volunteer fire department and ambulance corps, Glen Rock Public Library, and the food pantry that supports the families of local residents who are serving abroad in the U.S. military. Every year, the organization awards the largest scholarship in Glen Rock to a deserving high school graduate. The group hosts many children’s events in Glen Rock throughout the year, including the Easter Egg Hunt, Family Fun Night & Campout, and Santa’s Train Ride.
