schools’ mascots, the project’s goal is to create a sister school relationship through various activities throughout the year. The initial effort is a back-to-school supply drive in Glen Rock to benefit the students at Eastside. Glen Rock’s Thielke Arboretum will offer two Sunday nature adventure classes in August. “The Worms Crawl In, the Worms Crawl Out,” set for Aug. 21, will cover the secret underworld of soil, bugs, decay, and sweet smelling compost. On Aug. 28, the arboretum will offer “Bringing the Bright Colors of Summer Home.” Those who attend this workshop will catch the final burst of summer color at the arboretum before the autumn and will tie-dye a piece of muslin using natural dyes from plants. There is a small fee for this workshop to cover the cost of supplies. Participants should wear an old shirt as a smock during the tie-dying. These classes, led by Master Gardener Monica Mosco-

pens and pencils. Items may be dropped off at the Glen Rock Public Library on 315 Rock Road. Dr. David Verducci, superintendent of schools, said, “I am always supportive of service projects that encourage our students to give back for the opportunities they have been lucky enough to enjoy. I am proud to be part of a district that promotes the development of a strong social conscience in children at a very young age.” “The School of Government and Public Administration at Eastside High School in Paterson is happy to partner with Kate Scandale as part of a service learning project,” said Karen Johnson, principal of Eastside’s GoPA. “During the past school year, students at the Paterson school organized a clothing pantry for community members in need. Through the proverbial grapevine, we were able to connect with Kate and after a tour of the building, Kate was eager to (concentrate her efforts on) our clothing pantry. The students of the School of Government and Public Administration at Eastside High School and Kate Scandale are exceptional servant leaders in their communities.”
