The pedestrian was transported by the Ridgewood Ambulance Corps to the Valley Hospital. The driver of the vehicle left the scene and later turned himself in at the Ridgewood Police Department. The driver, a 21-year-old Ridgewood man, was charged with leaving the scene of an accident with injuries and careless driving. He was released pending an appearance in Ridgewood Municipal Court. The Ridgewood Police Department has charged a 21-year-old Florida woman with a number of violations following a hit and run accident on Aug. 4. Ridgewood Patrolman Joseph DiBenedetto stopped the vehicle when he heard it fit the description of a car involved in a hit and run accident and reported that the driver appeared to be under the influence of alcohol. The driver was charged with driving while intoxicated, refusal to submit to chemical testing, having an open container in a motor vehicle, and other motor vehicle violations. She was released pending an appearance in municipal court. The previous day, Patrolman Kyle Finch conducted a motor vehicle stop on East Ridgewood Avenue and reported that the juvenile driver of the vehicle and a passenger, an 18-year-old woman from Saddle Brook, were in possession of marijuana and paraphernalia. They were released pending court appearances. On Aug. 6, Patrolman Vekin McKeon and Patrolman John Ward conducted a motor vehicle stop on East Ridgewood Avenue and reported that a 35-year-old Paramus man was driving while intoxicated. He was also charged with reckless driving because he made an improper turn. He faces an appearance in Ridgewood Municipal Court. The Ridgewood Police Department notes that all defendants are presumed innocent until proven guilty beyond a reasonable doubt. J. KOSTER Cummings and Ward join force The Ridgewood Village Council recently administered the oath of office to two new police officers, Patrolman Stehen P. Cummings (left) and Patrolman John A, Ward, at last week’s public meeting. Members of the new officers’ families were present at the ceremony, which took place at Ridgewood Village Hall.
