Gift shop to host Sidewalk Sale The de Snoep Winkel Gift Shop and Tea Room at Christian Health Care Center in Wyckoff will hold a Sidewalk Sale from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. Friday, Aug. 19, in the Tea Room. Many items will be offered below cost, including baskets, holiday gifts, garden and home decor, and jewelry. Additional items will also be on sale inside the shop. The de Snoep Winkel Gift Shop and Tea Room is a fullservice gift featuring unique gifts for all ages and occasions, Delftware, Dutch lace, florals, baby items, unique children’s gifts, Dutch cookies, candy, and creative products for independent living. The coffee/snack counter carries a variety of special blend coffees, fresh baked goods, and snacks. All proceeds from de Snoep Winkel benefit residents and patients of the center. Lions plan Golf Outing The Saddle River Valley Lions Club will hold its Sixth Annual Golf Outing at the Falkirk Estate and Country Club in Central Valley, New York on Sept. 12. The $100 per golfer entrance cost will include a light breakfast, lunch, prizes, golf cart, and all fees. For the first time, all golfers
will have an opportunity to win a $5,000 hole-in-one prize. All proceeds from this outing will benefit the blind and visually impaired, and other health related charities. The Saddle River Valley Lions Club serves Allendale, Mahwah, Ramsey, Saddle River, and Upper Saddle River. Registration opens for fall classes Registration for the next session of YWCA Bergen County programs begins Monday, Aug. 15 at 8:30 a.m. Classes will run from Sept. 6 through Nov. 5. Members can register at www.ywcabergencounty.org, by phone, or in person. New classes for adults include Sleek Physiques, a cardio program based on the popular Lotte Berk Method® and barre fitness classes. Classes also include boxing or kickboxing lessons in a group or one-on one setting with a certified instructor. New for kids and teens include Beauty Boot Camp for girls age six through 11. This class is packed with fun, fitness, and beauty-focused activities designed to help girls gain self-confidence and good health. Be F.A.S.T., for children in grades six through eight, offers speed and agility training for middle-school children who enjoy running for fun or want to get in shape for team sports. Science and World Cultures classes for children ages three through five have been added to the schedule that also includes soccer, Spanish, cooking, Tea Party, and Lil’ Dragons Judo.
Enrichment for afternoon kindergarteners helps develop pre-reading, pre-math, and socialization skills for five and six-year-olds in a fun-filled environment. The YWCA offers dozens of other fitness, wellness, and enrichment programs for kids, teens, adults, and seniors, and American Red Cross certified swim classes for swimmers at every age and level. Book Drive now has more drop-off sites The Northern Highlands National Honor Society is collecting gently-used elementary level reading books to be donated to Kipp Star Elementary School in Washington Heights, New York. Kipp Star Elementary will be opening its doors to its first class of kindergarteners in August. The school will house students in kindergarten through grade four. Due to insufficient funding, the library has very few books. Additional collection boxes may be found at: The Hindu Samaj Temple, 247 West Ramapo Road in Mahwah; The Stable, 259 North Maple Avenue in Ridgewood; and at the badge office at Graydon Pool, 259 North Maple Avenue in Ridgewood. Collection boxes are also located at 10 Gloria Drive in Allendale; the Ho-Ho-Kus Public Library, 91 Warren Avenue, Ho-Ho-Kus; and the Glen Rock Public Library, 315 Rock Road, Glen Rock. Free Shred Day set The Bergen County Utilities Authority is offering a free Shred Day on Saturday, Aug. 20 from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m. at the Bergen County Community Services Building at 327 East Ridgewood Avenue in Paramus. Residents may bring up to four bags or boxes of paper weighing no more than 10 pounds each. Proof of Bergen County residence is required. Attendees will be able to observe their personal documents shredded on site. (continued on page 22)
