Students are asked to share one of two of their favorite pieces. Artwork may be delivered to the Stable, 259 North Maple Avenue in Ridgewood. Artwork should be tagged with name and telephone number. An artists’ reception will be held on Aug. 11 from 4 to 6 p.m. All exhibitors may invite their friends and family. The public is welcome to attend. Kasschau Shell performances announced Summer entertainment at the Kasschau Shell will continue Aug. 2 with a concert featuring YesterDaze “Doo Wop.” This concert is sponsored by Ulrich, Inc. and Van Dyk Health Care, Inc. The series will conclude Aug. 4 with the Harmony Celebration Chorus “Sweet Adelines.” This concert is sponsored by the Village of Ridgewood and Tarvin Realtors. For 53 years, free summer entertainment under the stars has been offered at the Kasschau Shell on Tuesdays and Thursdays at 8:30 p.m. Each week, a variety of family entertainment is offered. Attendees should bring a lawn chair or blanket. Restrooms are wheelchair accessible. Opera company performs free concert The Ridgewood Gilbert & Sullivan Opera Company, in conjunction with the Ridgewood Public Library and the Kasshau Shell Committee, will present a concert featuring the music from “HMS Pinafore” on Tuesday, Aug. 9. This program will be held at 7:30 p.m. in the library auditorium at 125 North Maple Avenue. Admission is free. Harmony Celebration Chorus to perform Come share the joy of a cappella singing with the Harmony Celebration Chorus. This award-winning, all-women’s chorus will perform on Thursday, Aug. 4 at 8:30 p.m. at the Kasschau Memorial Bandshell in Ridgewood. Bring a blanket or lawn chair and enjoy a varied repertoire of old and new favorites sung in the barbershop style. The bandshell is located on Veteran’s Field behind the Ridgewood Public Library and Village Hall, 131 North Maple Avenue. In case of rain, the performance will be held at Ben Franklin Middle School at North Van Dien and Glen avenues in Ridgewood. HCC is a local chapter of Sweet Adelines International, a group of over 30,000 women worldwide who love a cappella singing in the barbershop style. The Ridgewood G&S Opera Company recently presented “HMS Pinafore” as a fully-staged production at an International Gilbert & Sullivan Festival in Gettysburg, Pennsylvania, where -- once again -- the company became award winners. The Ridgewood G&S Opera Company offers two fullystaged productions each year. In fall 2012, the company will celebrate its 75th Anniversary. HILT plans events Domenick Panfile of Dumont will entertain the members of Highlights in Leisure Time on Aug. 11 at 10 a.m. Panfile, who is pursuing a musical career at Montclair University, will perform Broadway show tunes and arias from various operas. He was the recipient of The National Association of Teachers’ first prize for singing during his freshman year at Montclair. Panfile has been performing since he was in the fifth grade. On Aug. 18, HILT will offer a sight-seeing and dining cruise at the Jersey Shore. Attendees will enjoy waterfront dining at the Shrimp Box Restaurant in Point Pleasant Beach. After lunch, participants will board the River Belle for a 90-minute narrated cruise along the inland waters of the Manasquan River, Point Pleasant Canal, and Barnegat Bay. Participants may board the bus at the Graydon Pool lot beginning at 10:15 a.m. The bus will depart at 10:30 a.m. and will return at 5 p.m. The cost is $40 for HILT members and $45 for non-members. Ridgewood residents 55 and older are invited to join Highlights in Leisure Time, a senior organization under the auspices of the Ridgewood Department of Parks and Recreation. Monthly meetings are held at 10 a.m. at The Community Center at Village Hall, 131 North Maple Avenue in Ridgewood, and include entertainment and refreshments. Annual membership dues are $15. Registration begins for new fall classes The Ridgewood YMCA will offer a host of new classes this fall. Registration for the fall session will open Monday, Aug. 8 at 8:30 a.m. Classes will run Sept. 12 through Nov. ember 6. New classes for adults include: A Healthier You, an innovative eight-week lifestyle and fitness program led by an experienced coach. Each week, participants meet with their coach in small groups to learn about nutrition, exercise, and healthy lifestyles. These discussions are complemented by weekly workout sessions, including cardio, wellness, and strength and conditioning. Cardio, Core+ More offers a high-energy cardio workout using basic aerobic steps followed by toning exercises with a focus on the body’s core. New offerings for children are: Sportacular, a sports sampler class for children ages three through five. Each week, the program will feature a new sport. Offerings include soccer, T-ball, basketball, and more. The program is designed to offer kids a great introduction to youth sports. Kidz Kuisine will give budding chefs in the family a chance to have fun in the kitchen as they create healthy snacks and appetizers.
