Glen Rock April 27, 2011 THE VILLADOM TIMES II • Page 3 Ordinance establishes borough salaries for 2011 by John Koster The Glen Rock Borough Council established specific salaries with an ordinance adopted at the most recent public meeting. That ordinance sets minimum and maximum pay ranges for the borough’s paid positions. Mayor John van Keuren receives an honorarium of $3,900, and each of the six council members receives an honorarium of $2,730. These stipends cover the expenses of entertaining or traveling as part of the elected post. The two top salaries were $140,760 for Police Chief Frederick Stahman and $133,620 for Police Captain Jonathan Miller. Both men, due to longevity and satisfactory performance, are paid near the top of the guide. The minimum for police chief is stipulated at $85,000 and the minimum for police captain is stipulated at $80,000. Lenora Benjamin receives a total of $123,968 for both of her borough positions: $38,818 for the post of borough administrator and $85,150 for the post of chief financial officer. Benjamin retained her post as CFO when she accepted the borough administrator’s responsibilities after the resignation of Bertrand Kendall. Jackie Scalia receives $76,378 as borough clerk and $1,548 as election clerk. Paula Fleming receives a total of $53,109, including $48,253 as deputy borough clerk, $3,833 as secretary of the board of health, and $1,023 as deputy election clerk. The multiple posts, other than the election clerk’s jobs, are seen as a way of reducing the number of individual employees and the number of insurance and pension packets for which the borough is responsible. The construction code official, Brian Frugis, is paid $100,354; the public works director, Robert Tirserio, is paid $96,496; and the recycling coordinator, Craig Hemkes, is paid $79,476. The ordinance also covers a number of clerical jobs, mostly in the $40,000 range, and the hourly wages for part-time borough jobs. Pazan pledged that the council would do what it could, with the help of the volunteers, to keep library services to children, teens, seniors, and the general public as active as possible.
