Glen Rock April 20, 2011 THE VILLADOM TIMES II • Page 7 Election to feature contest for mayor, council seats by John Koster This November, Glen Rock voters will have a choice between incumbent Republican Mayor John van Keuren and former Democratic council member Mark McCullough for the four-year mayor’s post. Residents will also have a choice of three council candidates as Democrat Howard Fox seeks one of the two available three-year seats now occupied by Art Pazan and Pam Biggs. All of the candidates who filed last week will run unchallenged in their respective parties’ primaries, which will be held June 7. Mayor van Keuren, a graduate of Hamilton College, a Cold War veteran of the U.S. Army Reserve, and a retired actuary, will be seeking his third term. A regular at many volunteer events, van Keuren has used his actuarial experience to aid the borough. McCullough, a graduate of Hope College and member of Mensa, won a three-year council term as a Democrat after attempts as both a Democrat and an Independent. His efforts on behalf of the community and many contributions to volunteer activities were recognized by his appointment to the Glen Rock Planning Board, where he is an active member. McCullough has been an advocate of attempts to reduce local property taxes. Biggs is a graduate of Georgetown and is currently a full-time homemaker. She will be seeking election to a second term. Pazan, an executive in the food industry, is self-taught in Spanish and a strong advocate of savings for taxpayers. Pazan is a two-term incumbent. Fox, the Democratic challenger for one of the two council seats, holds an MBA in finance and investment from Baruch College, is a member of the Glen Rock Technology Committee, and runs several online businesses. He and his wife Robyn, a certified clinical psychologist, have three small children. The Glen Rock Library’s two ESL (English as a Second Language) discussion groups meet each week through June.
