Page 2 THE VILLADOM TIMES I, II, III & IV • April 20, 2011 Villadom Happenings Children’s Freedom Stamps on display Fifth graders from the Traphagen and Crescent school in Waldwick will exhibit their Freedom Stamps at The Hermitage Education and Conference Center, 335 North Franklin Turnpike, Ho-Ho-Kus. The Freedom Stamps are a culminating project inspired by students’ studies of individuals who worked toward equality, such as Dr. Martin Luther King Jr., Marian Anderson, and Ruby Bridges. Students combined their research of the Civil Rights Movement and images of freedom and equality throughout history to design the art and text of their Freedom Stamps. Students and their families may view the exhibit at no charge during the museum’s public hours, Wednesday through Sunday from 1 to 4 p.m., beginning April 20. The stamps will be on display through May 1. Tours of The Hermitage will also be available at the regular museum admission price of $7 for adults, $5 for seniors, and $4 for children ages five through 12. Children under five years old and museum members will be admitted free. Woman’s Club welcomes new members The senior and junior members of The Woman’s Club of Ridgewood invite local women to a Membership Garden Party on Friday, May 6 from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. The party will be held at the clubhouse at 215 West Ridgewood Avenue in Ridgewood. The event is an opportunity to learn about the club’s activities. Punch and finger foods will be served. The Woman’s Club of Ridgewood, a non-profit organization and member of the General Federation of Women’s Clubs and The New Jersey State Federation of Women’s Clubs, always welcomes new members. Botanical Garden sets Earth Day Cleanup On Saturday, April 23, the NJBG/Skylands Association will host an Earth Day Cleanup at the New Jersey State Botanical Garden in Ringwood. The event will run from 1 to 4 p.m. Volunteers are needed to help get the garden ready for the coming season. Participants are asked to bring gloves and clippers; larger tools and water will be provided. In the event of steady rain, the event will be cancelled. The New Jersey State Botanical Garden at Skylands, which appears on both the State and National Registers of Historic Places, is open from 8 a.m. to 8 p.m. every day of the year. Admission to the garden is s free. In 1966, the State of New Jersey purchased the 1,117 acres of Skylands, a former country estate and the state’s first acquisition under the Green Acres preservation program. Governor Thomas Kean designated the central 96 acres surrounding the manor house as the state’s official botanical garden in 1984. Since 1976, NJBG/Skylands Association, an incorporated, member-supported nonprofit organization, has worked with the state to preserve and protect Skylands and its historical structures. NJBG sponsors programs, concerts, and events throughout the year at the garden. NJBG/Skylands is located off Morris Road in Ringwood. Midland Park alumni sought The Midland Park High School Alumni Group is seeking to located alumni of the graduating classes from the ‘70s and ‘80s for a reunion set for the weekend of June 25. Spring Clergy Day planned The Church Relations Ministry of Christian Health Care Center will hold a Spring Clergy Day for area clergy from 9 a.m. to 12:45 p.m. Wednesday, May 4, in the Christian Health Care Center Auditorium, 301 Sicomac Avenue, Wyckoff. Registration will begin at 8:30. A hot buffet luncheon will be provided following the program. The title of the event is “Looking Up When Everything is Trending Down.” It is a timely subject which should provide valuable insights for everyone dealing with the challenges of pastoral ministry today. The speaker will be Rev. Anthony G. Pappas, DMin, executive minister for the American Baptist Churches of Massachusetts and editor of The Five Stones, a newsletter about small church ministry. He has served as a pastor for 20 years and has authored a book that provides proven principles and practical strategies for shepherding a church by combining an appreciation of tradition with a willingness to innovate.
