Singers perform Broadway favorites The Ridgewood Singers, a community chorus for over 50 years, will present “The Ridgewood Singers on Broadway” on Sunday, May 1 at 3 p.m. at the Ridgewood United Methodist Church, 100 Dayton Street in Ridgewood. Conducted by George Swope, the concert will feature classic and new show tunes from Broadway musicals like “Les Miserables,” “Phantom of the Opera,” “Oklahoma,” ‘Rent,” “Ain’t Misbehavin’,” “Sweeney Todd,” “South Pacific” and more. OPRC hosts Roast Beef Dinner On Saturday, April 30, the men of Ridgewood’s Old Paramus Reformed Church will take over the church kitchen to prepare the 139th Annual Roast Beef Dinner. Seating will be at 6 p.m. in the church’s barrier-free education building. The community is cordially invited. Tickets are $16 for adults and $8 for children under age 12. Chamber plans Easter in Ridgewood The Ridgewood Chamber of Commerce has planned special Easter events for Saturday, April 23. Breakfast with the Easter Bunny will be held from 10 to 11 a.m. at Smith Brothers at 51 Broad Street. Reservations are necessary. Take a short hop over to Van Neste Park for a free Easter Egg Hunt from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. The Easter Bunny will be on hand to take photos with the children. This event will include entertainment and activities. The Bunny Trolley Express will shuttle shoppers to the local businesses, which will offer in-store arts and crafts. Backyard swim lessons available This summer, pool owners may take advantage of the nationally renowned YMCA swim lessons in their own backyards. Held from June 27 through Aug. 16, the Backyard Pool program includes two-week sessions of eight, half-hour classes. A special one-week session of four, halfhour classes will be held Aug. 22 through 26. With a choice of time periods: 10 a.m. to noon, noon to 3 p.m., or 3 to 5 p.m., the program combines high quality swim instruction with convenience. The Ridgewood YMCA has the largest Backyard Pool program in northern New Jersey. Instructors are highly qualified, trained, and lifeguard certified. The choice of private, semi-private, or small group classes maximizes learning and helps children master swim skills. Early registration is recommended. Guild hosts Luncheon and Card Party The Women’s Guild of Ridgewood’s Old Paramus Reformed Church will hold its annual Spring Luncheon and Card Party on April 28 from noon to 4 p.m. in the church’s barrier-free education building. The event will include opportunities to win prizes. Those who do not play cards are encouraged to bring friends and a game of choice. The cost is $18 per person. College Club offers scholarship loan program The College Club of Ridgewood will offer a Memorial Scholarship Loan Fund program for the upcoming academic year. Peck family genealogy presented Dave Peck will present “Graveyards and Greater Plots” to the Bergen County Genealogical Society on April 25 at 7 p.m. The group meets at the Ridgewood Public Library, 125 North Maple Avenue in Ridgewood. Peck, whose ancestors include the Pecks who arrived in Hingham, Massachusetts in 1638, and the Van Pattens, who joined the Dutch settlement of Schenectady, New York in 1664, will describe the findings he made after two-and-ahalf years of research. His search took him to Massachusetts, Rhode Island, Connecticut, New York, and beyond. Many of his discoveries were serendipitous and frequently linked to interesting living relatives. Peck has logged more than 1,000 entries on Findagrave.com and produced two family history photo books on Ancestry.com. He is a retired high school biology and chemistry teacher. Thrifty Treasures Sale set The annual Thrifty Treasures Sale at Emmanuel Baptist Church will be held April 30 (rain or shine) from 8 a.m. to 1:30 p.m. at the church. Featured at the event will be antiques, furniture, fine jewelry, kitchen gadgets, seasonal decorations, housewares, books, one-of-a-kind objects d’art, and more. Borkowski exhibit open Hildi Borkowski will exhibit her “Spring Celebration: The Flowers of Spring” at the Anne Zusy Youth Center in Ridgewood Village Hall, 131 North Maple Avenue, through May 12. Heidel exhibit at Stable Gallery Theresa Troise Heidel will exhibit her “Watercolor Journeys Near and Far” at the Stable Art Gallery during the month of April. Primarily painted on location, the watercolors reflect a love of architecture and keen understanding of light and atmosphere. Heidel has been featured in “Jersey Shore Magazine,” “The Jersey Shore Guide Book,” “Jersey Shore Home and Garden,” and in two coffee table books, “To the Shore Once More,” Volumes I and II, and advertisements for the Monmouth County Tourism Board. A graduate of Saint Peter’s College in Jersey City, she completed her postgraduate studies at the Accademia delle Belle Arti in Florence, Italy. Her previous solo exhibit venues have included Saint Peter’s College, Fort Lee Library, Oceanside Gallery in Belmar, When Pigs Fly Gallery in Asbury Park, Tumblety Howell Fine Art in Ocean Grove, and M.
