Albert “Al” Castillo of Mahwah died March 29. He was 81. He was a U.S. Navy veteran. He attended school in Waldwick and attended Ramsey High School. He worked at the Curtis Wright Company in Wood-Ridge, and later at Castillo Liquors in Waldwick. Before retiring, he managed the Crystal Lake Inn in Franklin Lakes. He is survived by his siblings Rose Garant of Saint Augustine, Florida, Dolores Barker and Evelyn Ganguzza, both of Wyckoff, and Louise Block of Mahwah, his close friend Pat Eichmann of Mahwah, and several nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by his parents Julio and Mary Castillo, his brother Edward De Rocco, and his former wife Henrietta Knorr Castillo. Box 22718, Oklahoma City, OK 73123-1718. Cleo George of Mahwah died April 12. She was 93. She was owner and operator of Alexandria Restaurant in Fort Lee. She was a parishioner of Saint John the Theologian Greek Orthodox Church in Tenafly, and a member of the Midland Park Senior Center. She is survived by her children Maria Kalafatis, Penny Raggi, and Sandy Cocuzza, six grandchildren, and two great-grandchildren. She was predeceased by her husband Spiros. Arrangements were made by Feeney Funeral Home in Ridgewood. Marion Agnes Goebbert of Ho-Ho-Kus died April 9. She was 81. She worked for British Overseas Airways Corp. at Kennedy Airport. She is survived by her husband Herbert John Goebbert Sr., her children Sue Ann Casale of Sherborn, Massachusetts and Herbert John Goebbert Jr. of Ho-Ho-Kus, and five grandchildren. Joan G. Hamilton of Brick, formerly of Ramsey died April 11. She was 81. She had been employed at Lee Cleaners in Ramsey for many years. She volunteered for DARE, was a member of the Ramsey Senior Club and the Old Stone House Historical Society, and a parishioner at Saint Paul’s R.C. Church in Ramsey. She is survived by her children Paul of Ramsey, Jodie Miller of Montvale, and Patti Abma of Brick, and five grandchildren. She was predeceased by her sister Theresa Scafuro. Memorial donations may be made to Ramsey Police Department or the Montvale Fire Department.

Filomena “Pearl” Karaszewski, nee Le Grande, of Wyckoff died April 11. She was 91. She is survived by her husband Albert F. Karaszewski, and several nieces and nephews. Arrangements were made by Browning Forshay Funeral Home in Hawthorne. William E. Nichols of Mahwah died April 11. He was 83. He was a U.S. Army veteran of WWII. Before retiring, he was employed at Bendix in Teterboro. He was a parishioner of Our Lady of the Assumption Church in WoodRidge. He is survived by his wife Gloria (nee Alvarado), his children Sue Ostek of Teaneck, Claudia Puzo of Mahwah, Jackie Bruno of Ramsey, eight grandchildren, and two great-grandchildren. He was predeceased by his son William Jr., and his grandson Dwight. Arrangements were made by Van Emburgh-Sneider-Pernice Funeral Home in Ramsey. William Nisbet of Midland Park died April 11. He was 82. Before retiring in the mid 1980s, he was employed by Eastman Kodak. He was a volunteer at The Valley Hospital in Ridgewood. He is survived by his son Jeffrey Nisbet and his wife Pat Nisbet of Midland Park, his grandchildren, Justin Nisbet of Brooklyn, New York, and Sarah Mazurek of Wanaque, and two great-grandchildren. He was predeceased by his wife Audrey (nee Garrigan). Arrangements were made by Vander Plaat Funeral Home in Wyckoff. She was a graduate of Tuxedo Park Nursing School and trained at Saint Vincent’s Hospital in New York City. She was a registered nurse for over 40 years. She is survived by her daughters Joan Sundquist of Mesa, Arizona, and Mary Dwyer of Boise, Idaho, and Carol Ritzinger of Novato, California, four grandchildren, and her sister Antoinette Greenwald of Paramus. Arrangements were made by C.C. Van Emburgh Funeral Home in Ridgewood. James Matthew Rider of Mahwah died April 6. He was 78. He was a U.S. Army veteran of the Korean War. He was a member IBEW Local Union 164. He is survived by his children Regina Rider, Nancy Rider, and James Rider, two grandchildren, his companion Connie Basso, and his brother Gerard Rider. He was predeceased by his brothers William, Thomas, and Richard. Arrangements were made by Van Emburgh-Sneider-Pernice Funeral Home in Ramsey.

Concert Series finale scheduled The Christ Church Ridgewood Concert Series will present its final program of the season on Sunday, May 1 at 4 p.m. Cellist Richard Locker and pianist Hiroko Sasaki will present works by Beethoven, Brahms, Debussy, and Randall Svane. Locker, well known for his stylish and expressive performances, is the winner of prizes from the American Bach Foundation and the National Arts Club. He made his New York recital debut in 1979 to high critical acclaim, and subsequently toured the world as soloist and chamber musician. He has served as principal cellist with the Lincoln Center Mostly Mozart Festival, the New York City Ballet Orchestra, the American Symphony Orchestra, the Orchestra of Saint Luke’s, and the Brooklyn Philharmonic. He has recorded numerous CDs with artists ranging from Leonard Bernstein and Pinchas Zuckerman to Wynton Marsalis, McCoy Tyner, and Elvis Costello. Sasaki performs extensively as recitalist and chamber musician in Europe and Asia. She has also performed at the Yehudi Menuhin Festival, Tanglewood Taos, Banff, and the Budapest Spring Festival. She presents annual recitals in Carnegie Hall and makes frequent tours of Japan. A graduate of the Curtis Institute, she studied with Leon Fleischer, graduating in 1994. She later earned a master of music degree at the Peabody Conservatory, and an artist diploma at the Royal Conservatory of Music in Toronto. She is currently on the faculty of the Bard College Conservatory of Music. Tickets are $15 in advance and $20 at the door. Holy Week at Old Paramus Church Ridgewood’s Old Paramus Reformed Church invites the community to its Holy Week services. Ridgewood’s Old Paramus Reformed Church will hold a service of personal meditation, prayers, and music, with Communion for all who wish to participate on Maundy Thursday, April 21 at 7:30 p.m. The 21-voice Chancel Choir will undertake parts of “The Armed Man: A Mass for Peace,” composed in 2001 by Englishman Karl Jenkins, and first performed by 150 voices at a concert in Wales. Recorded on DVD, it was released one week prior to 9/11. Two Good Friday services will be held at 11:30 a.m. and 7:30 p.m. The service will be based on “The Stones of (continued on next page)
