Muenz is an avid birder and a member of Fyke Nature Association. Members interested in the Activities Club’s golf program may sign up for the season at this meeting. Open House set Academy of Our Lady will hold an Open House for its pre-kindergarten classes for two-, three-, and four-yearolds on Tuesday, April 19 form 9 to 10:30 a.m. Sessions are two, three, four or five days with additional full-day options, morning care, and aftercare. The school offers indoor and outdoor play areas, a full-time nurse, and other enrichment activities. Prospective students may visit on Buddy Day, Wednesday, April 20 for morning classes. The school offers kindergarten, with a half- or full-day option, and classes for grades one through eight with a full academic program, complemented by religion, computer, library, music, art, physical education, and Spanish classes. Teens to assist soldiers Teens Working in Community Service, also known as TWICS -- a division of Glen Rock WICS – will collect toiletries for overseas soldiers and soldiers in Walter Reed Hospital in Washington, D.C. Items needed items include old DVDs, wipes, toothpaste, powdered drinks, stationery, large and extra-large white T-shirts, large and extra-large socks, packets of soup, hard candy, and gum. Donations may be dropped off in the TWICS bins at the following locations: the Glen Rock Library, the Glen Rock Hardware Store, and Rita’s Ice. The drive will run through April 21. Garden Club learns about trees Steve Skyer of the Bartlett Tree Experts in Ridgewood will address the Glen Rock Garden Club on Wednesday, April 20 at 7:45 p.m. in the Glen Rock Municipal Annex at 678 Maple Avenue. Refreshments will be served. Skyer, a certified arborist with 15 years of experience in the green industry, will present “Modern Arbor Culture.” Anyone interested in joining the club may contact Donald Levine at (201) 447-6099, or come to a meeting. Arbor Day celebration set The Friends of the Glen Rock Arboretum will hold an Arbor Day tree planting ceremony at the Thiekle Arboretum in Glen Rock on Friday, April 29 at 10:30 a.m. Delegations of student, faculty, and parents from Glen Rock schools and borough residents are invited. Students will plant the tree. This year marks the borough’s 19th Arbor Day celebration. In the past, the Friends chose understory trees for planting at the arboretum. This year marks the start of a new program to replenish wetland woods with young native tall trees. After the ceremony, refreshments will be served. RSVP; call (201) 444-1687. Casino Night Fundraiser planned The Glen Rock Cooperative Nursery School will host a Casino Night fundraiser on Saturday, May 7 at the Community Church auditorium, 354 Rock Road in Glen Rock. The event will include appetizers, a casual dinner, and dessert. Refreshments and adult beverages will also be included. Each participant will be provided “fun” money for the evening. The event will feature gift baskets, and prizes – including a cash prize. Advertisers for the event program, sponsors, and prize donations are sought. Donations are tax-deductable. Tickets are $45. Library sponsors teen events Teens are invited to the Glen Rock Public Library, 315 Rock Road in Glen Rock, for an April full of events. Movie nights, a video game tournament, and a scavenger hunt are a few of this month’s offerings. On April 29 from 8 to 10 p.m., the library will host a Teen Movie Night. In the film, a young man is pitted against a series of formidable foes to win the woman of his dreams. To learn more, see the flyers posted in the library. No registration is required. The Teen Advisory and Teen Book Discussion Groups will continue to meet throughout April. All teen programming is paid for by the Friends of the Glen Rock Public Library. Seniors plan trips The Glen Rock Senior Citizens Club will host trips in May and June. On May 18, the group will travel to Mount Airy Casino. The cost is $25. Attendees will receive $35 for slots. The bus will depart from Wilde Park at 9:30 a.m. A photo ID is required by the casinos. The seniors will visit Monmouth Racetrack on Friday, June 17. A buffet luncheon at the Turf Club is included. Jackets are required for men. Jeans and shorts are not permitted. The bus will depart from Wilde Park at 10 a.m. The cost for the day is $39 for club members, $42 for non-members. For reservations, call Ed at (201) 445-9238. Library hosts teen book discussions Teens are invited to the informal book discussions at the Glen Rock Public Library. Sessions meet every other Monday at 7:30 p.m. and are designed for teens to express their reactions to an eclectic selection of works. Each month will feature one graphic novel and one text novel. This opportunity to explore some of the most revered teen titles is supported by the Friends of the Glen Rock Public Library. Sign-up sheets and copies of the books are located at the reference desk.
