Vogel is past president of the Brandeis Men’s Club and current synagogue president. He was presented with the Harry Grant Award, named for the long-time highly involved member of Temple Israel, the Brandeis Men’s Club, and the Northern NJ Region of the Federation of Jewish Men’s Clubs. The Harry Grant Award is the Brandeis Men’s Club’s way of honoring Denis Vogel named Temple Israel’s Man of the Year Grant every year. Temple Israel and JCC is an egalitarian Conservative synagogue with members from over a dozen Bergen County communities. Waltraud Unger, a board certified holistic health and nutrition coach and a member of the American Association of Drugless Practitioners, will present “Why Food Matters” at Temple Israel, 475 Grove Street in Ridgewood, on Sunday, May 1 at 10:30 a.m. Unger will discuss the increase of chronic disease in the United States, the relationship between food and disease, ways food can heal, and strategies to make food choices that lessen the impact on our environment. Following this presentation, Unger will conduct a six-week group workshop on incorporating smart food choices into one’s life. The workshop will be open to participants of the presentation and members of the Temple Israel Sisterhood and the Brandeis Men’s Club. There is a nominal fee for the six-week group workshop. Learn ‘Why Food Matters’ Workshop details will be announced at the presentation. Unger received her training at The Institute for Integrative Nutrition in New York City. She also holds a master’s degree in physics. Unger leads workshops on nutrition, cooking demonstrations, and supermarket tours, and offers individual and group health and nutrition coaching to address a variety of health concerns. There is no charge for the presentation, and all are welcome. A light snack will be served. This program is co-sponsored by Temple Israel’s Sisterhood and Brandeis Men’s Club.
