Kits sought for tsunami victims Family Haircare in Midland Park is currently collecting health kits that will be distributed among victims of the tsunami in Japan. Residents are asked to fill a one-gallon zipstyle plastic bag with one of each of the following items: hand towel, wash cloth, comb, metal nail file or clipper with file, wrapped bath-size soap bar, packaged toothbrush, and six Bandaids. New or barely-used practical shoes are also needed. Bring kits and shoes to the salon at 222 Godwin Avenue in Midland Park by April 21. Hours are 8:30 a.m. to 5 p.m., Monday through Saturday. Bereavement support group forming The parishes of Our Lady of Mount Carmel in Ridgewood, Saint Gabriel in Saddle River, and Saint Catharine in Glen Rock are jointly sponsoring a summer Bereavement Support Group. The group will meet on Sundays beginning June 12 at 2 p.m. at Our Lady of Mount Carmel, One Passaic Street in Ridgewood. The meeting will offer support for those at the beginning stages of the grief process. The group stresses confidentiality and mutual support. This program is open to all. Prayer group holds information meeting Moms in Touch International, a prayer group for mothers who desire to pray for the needs and concerns of their children and their school community, will host an informational meeting for those interested in the group on Tuesday, May 3. The session will be held from 7:15 to 9:15 p.m. at Faith Reformed Church, 95 Prospect Street in Midland Park. Mothers and grandmothers are invited to learn about this ministry. Graydon Pool open to area residents Families in the surrounding area are invited to join the Graydon Pool facility in Ridgewood for the 2011 summer season. Facility activities include volleyball, basketball, bocce, ping-pong, shuffleboard, four-squares, hopscotch, and Storytime under the Pavilion. Additional amenities include a lending library, a shaded playground, water features, shade kites, Adirondack chairs, picnic area, sheltered pavilion, charcoal grills, and The Water’s Edge Café. Swim instruction will be offered for children and adults along with an adaptive swim class. Opening day will be Saturday, June 4. Special festivities are planned. The cost for non-resident adults is $160 for adults; $140 for children ages two through 15 for the 13-week season. Badges will go on sale April 15 and may be purchased at www.ridgewoodnj.net/communitypass. In-person registration assistance will be available May 14 and 21 from 10
a.m. to noon at the Graydon Pool Badge Office, 259 North Maple Avenue. Badges may be purchased daily throughout the operating season. Call the recreation office at (201) 6705560 for details. Waldwick High classes plan reunion The Fourth Waldwick Multi-Year Reunion will be held on Oct. 1 from 7 to 11 p.m. at the Doubletree/Hilton Hotel on Route 17 South in Mahwah for graduates of the Classes of 1966 through 1976. The cost is $75 for those who reserve tickets by June 1. College Club offers scholarship loan program The College Club of Ridgewood will offer a Memorial Scholarship Loan Fund program for the upcoming academic year. The application deadline for this interest-free college loan program is May 15. Botanical Garden holds Plant Sale The New Jersey State Botanical Garden will hold its annual Plant Sale April 30 and May 1 from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. at the gardens at Skylands, located on Morris Road in Ringwood. The sale will feature a generous array of perennials, annuals, hanging baskets, vegetables, herbs, and dwarf, and full-sized trees and shrubs. On Friday, April 29, from 6:30 to 8:30 p.m., NJBG members will be treated to the Plant-Sale Preview Party, an exclusive wine and cheese reception during which many of the choicest plants are traditionally sold. Non-member visitors to the Friday night preview may participate by becoming members at the gate. Membership in NJBG/Skylands Association includes admission and benefits at numerous gardens and arboreta in the U.S and other benefits.
