Local residents to receive Boye Humanitarian Award
In memory of its distinguished benefactor and mentor, the Wyckoff Family YMCA will present the “William E. Boye Jr. Humanitarian Award” at its 29th Annual Friends of the Y Dinner on Wednesday, May 4 at 6:30 p.m. at the Wyckoff YMCA, 691 Wyckoff Avenue in Wyckoff. This year’s event will be “Celebrating Those Who Reach for the Stars” and will honor six individuals who have exemplified the passion and strength to make positive change in the community. This year’s award winners are Gary and Carol Flaker, Jennifer Hoppe, Lee Parker, Bevinn Murphy Romaine, and Scott Woods. Romaine was born in raised in Franklin Lakes by Moira and Ted Murphy. After graduating from Ramapo High School and Colgate University, she began her career in

publishing and public relations. She married Rob Romaine in 1993 and has three children, Coles, Seeley, and Erinn. Romaine has returned to Franklin Lakes to raise her family and has been actively involved as a volunteer with the borough’s recreation department as a coach. She was a principal organizer of her hometown’s first Youth Biathlon, which was held in conjunction with the Wyckoff Family YMCA last September. Her enthusiasm and involvement are key in making the Wyckoff-Franklin Lakes Triathlon possible.
She volunteers her time at the library and at her children’s schools. She is employed by the Indian Trail Club. Parker has been a resident of Wyckoff since 1995 along with his wife and two daughters. A Bergen County native, he also lived in California where he owned award-winning Mexican restaurants. He then returned to the New York City area for a decade working in telecommunications, before getting back into the restaurant business with the (continued on page 20)
