School vacation camp offered The Ridgewood YMCA will offer School Vacation Camp April 11 to 15 and April 18 to 21 from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. with extended hours until 6 p.m. available. The camp is open to all area children in kindergarten through grade five. YMCA membership is not required. School Vacation Camp offers daily recreational and educational activities including swimming, arts and crafts, and special theme days. For parents, the camp offers an affordable day care alternative during the April school holidays. Themes will include Kids in the Kitchen, Arts with Paint, Silly Sports, a picnic day, and a movie day. The cost for camp is $75 per day for Ridgewood YMCA members and $85 per day for non-members. Contemporary oratorio offered Fig Orchard, an ecumenical Christian adult educational ministry will present “A Pilgrim’s Psalm,” a contemporary oratorio, April 10 at 4 p.m. at the West Side Presbyterian Church in Ridgewood. Experience the story of Holy Week through the words and music of doorjam. Inspired by “Journey to Resurrection,” a collection of provocative paintings by artist Lucy Janjigian, “A Pilgrim’s Psalm” is a journey of words, music, images, and imagination. The church is at 6 South Monroe Street. Fitness center holds Open House The Bolger Fitness Center, a program of the Ridgewood YMCA and the YWCA Bergen County, invites prospective members to an Open House on April 10 from 1 to 5 p.m. Guests will meet the staff, tour the facility, and enjoy a free group spinning class from 1 to 2 p.m. Demonstrations include kickboxing demo at 2:15 p.m. and Tai Chi/Chi Gong at 3:30 p.m. The event will include refreshments, prizes, and complimentary guest passes. Members who sign up during the Open House will receive 50 “BFC Bucks,” good towards personal training, fitness evaluations, and massage. The Bolger Fitness Center features state-of-the-art cardio and strength training equipment and more than 65 weekly fitness classes. Members also have access to two indoor heated pools and on-site personal training, massage, and child care. “Watercolor Journeys Near and Far” at the Stable Art Gallery throughout April. Primarily painted on location, the watercolors reflect a love of architecture and keen understanding of light and atmosphere. Heidel has been featured in “Jersey Shore Magazine,” “The Jersey Shore Guide Book,” “Jersey Shore Home and Garden,” and in two coffee table books, “To the Shore Once More,” Volumes I and II, and advertisements for the Monmouth County Tourism Board. Graydon discounts offered Discounted rates will be offered to village residents who purchase their Graydon Pool memberships prior to May 22. Adult and child badges will be discounted $10 each, and seniors will receive a $5 savings from their already discounted fee. Badges will go on sale on April 15 and may be purchased through Community Pass at www. ridgewoodnj.net/communitypass. Visa and MasterCard are accepted. In-person registration assistance will be available May 14 and 21 from 10 a.m. to noon at the Graydon Pool Badge Office, 259 North Maple Avenue. Badges will be sold daily throughout the operating season. Memberships are available to Ridgewood residents, non-residents who pay local property taxes to the Village of Ridgewood, and employees of the Village of Ridgewood and of the Ridgewood Board of Education. Non-resident seasonal memberships are available to all. The cost is $160 per adult and $140 for children two through 15. Pool & spa safety program set The Ridgewood YMCA will offer a free backyard pool and spa safety presentation on April 12 from 7:30 to 8:30 p.m. The presentation is free and open to all; however, advance registration is advised. Palm Sunday Pancake Breakfast set On April 17, the Teen Youth Group of Ridgewood’s Old Paramus Reformed Church will hold an “All You Can Eat” Pancake Breakfast from 8 to 9:30 a.m. in the church’s barrier-free education building. Proceeds will support the teens’ annual summer mission trip, this year to York, Pennsylvania. Tickets are $8 for adults and $4 for children 12 and under. Members of the community are invited to the event. Tickets may be purchased until April 15 by visiting the church office weekdays from 9 a.m. to 1:30 p.m. at 660 East Glen Avenue at Route 17 South. Choral presents Spring Concert The Ridgewood Choral will hold its 83rd Annual Spring Concert on April 15 at 8 p.m. at West Side Presbyterian Church, 6 South Monroe Street in Ridgewood. Under the direction of Marjorie Vandervoort, the choral will perform a diverse program including music by Handel, Brahms, and Schubert. The group will also perform “Warning.” Susan LaFever accompanies at the piano with Linda Glasgal as guest pianist for four-hand piano accompaniment. The featured musician will be Ruriko Terada on the harp. A reception with light refreshments will follow the performance. Tickets are $15 in advance; $18 at the door. For tickets, call (201) 825-7456 or (201) 327-8184. Institute plans Sponsor’s Show The Ridgewood Art Institute’s 59th Annual Sponsor’s Show will be held April 10 through May 6. The show features original art donated to the institute by its members and instructors. The first 120 people to contribute $250 to the institute become sponsors of the show and are guaranteed one of the framed paintings. Ridgewood’s mayor will determine the order in which the sponsors may choose their paintings. This year’s gala will be at the institute’s galleries on May 6 at 8 p.m. A framed and signed print by the Barn’s founding master artist, Arthur Maynard, will be included in the entries.
