Franklin Lakes
Council accepts multiple donations
by Frank J. McMahon At its last work session, the Franklin Lakes Borough Council passed three resolutions acknowledging the receipt of the donations toward the operating expenses of the ambulance corps, fire department, and the borough’s town fair, and a donation of ballistic vests to the borough’s police department. Becton Dickinson has made a monetary donation to the Franklin Lakes Fire Department and the Franklin Lakes Ambulance Corps, and one to support the annual town fair. Jennifer Farrington, the director of social investing for Becton Dickinson, advised Franklin Lakes Mayor Frank Bivona about the donations of $5,000 each to the ambulance corps and the fire department for general operating support and $2,500 in support of the town fair and she enclosed a check for $12,500. “BD is proud to continue its support of Franklin Lakes and its civil servants in their efforts to keep residents safe from harm,” Farrington wrote. The company has been making donations to the borough’s fire department company and ambulance corps for several years, according to Borough Administrator Gregory Hart. Becton Dickinson is a global medical technology company that develops, manufactures and sells medical devices, instrument systems and reagents with a focus on improving drug delivery, enhancing the quality and speed of diagnosing infectious diseases and cancers, advancing research, and discovery and production of new drugs and vaccines. The council also acknowledged the receipt of a $5,000 private donation from the Meyer Foundation for the purchase of ballistic vests for the police department. A ballistic vest is an item of personal armor that helps absorb the impact from firearm-fired projectiles and shrapnel from explosions. The council’s three resolutions request the permission of the state’s director of the New Jersey Division of Local Government Services to approve the insertion of this revenue in the borough’s 2011 budget.
