Jasalyn K. DeRyke, health educator from Valley Hospital, will offer a presentation on “Building a Stress Management Toolbox” on Oct. 4 at 7 p.m. at the Wyckoff Public Library, 637 Wyckoff Avenue. DeRyke will discuss the dangers of stress and offer stress reduction strategies. On Oct. 20 at 7 p.m., Elisabeth Lucas, manager of gerontology at Valley Hospital, will discuss housing options for mature adults. Learn about retirement communities, assisted living, and senior apartments in “Home Is Where the Heart Is.” Both programs will be held at the Wyckoff Public Library’s temporary location, 637 Wyckoff Avenue. Morning and afternoon classes are offered for children who are two-and-a-half through six years of age. Pre-nursery, nursery, preK, transitional kindergarten, and a new extended kindergarten class are available. The Grace Extended Kindergarten Program, designed for five- and six-year-old children, was created to complement and extend the half-day kindergarten curriculum. Health fair scheduled The Wyckoff Board of Health will hold its Annual Health Fair and Influenza Prevention Program on Thursday, Oct. 6 at the Cedar Hill Christian Reformed Church, 422 Cedar Hill Avenue from 1 to 4 p.m. This year, the board of health will also offer the flu vaccine from 6 to 9 p.m. at Wyckoff Fire Company #1 behind Memorial Town Hall. Individuals must be at least 18 years of age to receive an influenza vaccination. The Wyckoff Board of Health invites residents from surrounding towns to attend this program. This year’s vaccine will offer protection against the H1N1 strain of the flu in addition to two other seasonal strains of the virus that are expected to be circulating in this area. It is critical to receive the influenza vaccination before the peak influenza season. Early October is recommended. Those who have Medicare Part B must bring their Medicare Part B card to the Influenza Prevention Program in order to receive the vaccination. The Wyckoff Board of Health, through a contract with the Northwest Regional Health Commission, will directly bill Medicare. For those who have a Medicare HMO (such as Medicare Advantage) and those without Medicare Part B, the cost will be $25. A speech/language pathologist and a social worker/elder care expert will also be on hand. WEF 5K road closures announced The Wyckoff Township Committee has approved the road closings necessary for the Wyckoff Education Foundation 5K Run and Family Fun Walk on Oct. 15. The fund- Wyckoff /Midland Park VFW Post 7086 is currently welcoming new members. Any veteran who has served overseas in the U.S. Armed Forces is eligible. Meetings are held on the first Tuesday of every month at the post home on Faner Road in Midland Park. Register for select traveling basketball Registration for The Wyckoff Recreation and Parks Department’s select traveling basketball teams for girls and boys in grades three through eight will take place through Sept. 23 at the recreation office. The program is open to Wyckoff residents only. Only players who register before the Sept. 23 deadline will be scheduled for tryouts, which will take place from late October through mid-November. Travel baseball registration under way The Wyckoff Recreation and Parks Department invites Wyckoff baseball players to register for the select traveling 9U through 12U baseball teams.
