Musical presentations will kick off and wrap up Waldwick Day this Saturday, Sept. 24 (rain date, Sept. 25), setting the stage for an afternoon filled with activity for children of all ages as well as adults. Sponsored by the Waldwick Chamber of Commerce, the 8th annual event will take place from 12 to 5 p.m. at Borough Park, 98 Pine Street, off Hopper Avenue. “Come out for a fun-filled day and support local business,” urged chamber President Christine Figliuolo. “We’re raising the bar this year by adding many attractions. We look forward to seeing the residents of Waldwick and the surrounding communities come out for a fun-filled day.” The Waldwick High School Marching Band will open the celebration at 12 noon, followed by a demonstration by ZUMBA, NJ at 12:30 p.m. The School of Rock will perform at 2 p.m., and Blues Chamber, one of New Jersey’s top rock’n’blues bands, will close out the last half hour at 4:30 p.m. A lifelong Waldwick resident and musician, Rick Dittamo and his band mates are offering the live concert to help raise awareness for the Friends of White’s Pond cause. DJ Willie will provide music throughout the afternoon. New this year is a Dog Contest, scheduled to begin at 3 p.m. (with a portion of the proceeds donated to Companion Animal Advocates-Operation Feed a Pet). owner/pet look-alike. Dogs must be on a leash at all times. Other additions this year are a Dunk Tank, a Kids’ ID table and a Crafters Corner. As always, members of the chamber and local community groups will showcase their businesses/organizations, Servpro of NW Bergen will hold its now famous pieeating contest, and the Waldwick Lions Club will release its duck fleet in the brook for the Ducky Derby at 4 p.m. There will be many attractions for the kids, a variety of food vendors, ice cream, Italian ice, face painting and tie-dying by Karen’s Kreations (your shirt of buy hers). Free Child ID cards with photo and fingerprints will be available to all children courtesy of New York Life and Nancy Aleman. Stop at their vendor table. Children must be accompanied by a parent or legal guardian. Outside crafters will be selling everything from jewelry, well-known brands of kitchen items and makeup, and hand painted silk scarves, tutus, and much more. The pavilion will be turned into a food court, with local eateries Italian Riviera, The Wild Cat, Waldwick Pizza and Ho-HoKus Bagels and Deli offering their specialties. This is a great opportunity to sample all the specialties Waldwick has to offer and to meet local service providers. As a special thank you to the business community, the chamber is offering a discounted membership fee of $90 (instead of $100) to any business that signs up at the chamber table.
