Meese said T-Mobile had already granted three extensions of time to the board, and he was not authorized to grant another time extension. DiFlora also noted that the setback requirement is 300 feet and T-Mobile wants 156 feet. He pointed out that the board often puts residents “through the mill” for impinging two or three feet into a 25 foot setback. “You’re not looking at 290 feet or 280 feet, but 156 feet, which is pretty significant,” DiFlora said.” DiFlora reminded the residents, however, that when the Ramapo High School monopole application came before the board and it was denied, that denial was overturned in Superior Court in Hackensack. He cautioned the residents if that happens in this application, the board would lose its ability to set conditions on the facility, and he did not know if they thought about that. Nevertheless, the residents indicated they did not want the variance granted, and they would prefer taking their chances in court. iDebate for Arya, at Cavallini School. Arya’s dream was to have a debate club at Cavallini. He argued his case, knowing that middle school-level debate clubs are virtually non-existent in this area. Although he did not live to see his dream become a reality, his father and teacher Stephanie Chamberlin joined forces to get the program off the ground with the support of Cavallini School Principal Dr. Gene Solomon and Assistant Principal James McCusker. In June, two teams of Cavallini seventh graders debated the use of Facebook by middle school students.

T-Mobile has looked at all the other properties, and the board has an obligation to allow T-Mobile to operate.” According to Meese, there is no better place in the community for this facility and he added, “Based on that, and on case law, I believe the board should grant the variance because the applicant has met its burden for this facility.” Zoning Board Chairman Steven DiFlora said he thought the digital photo display presented by Karlebach was insufficient to show all the angles from which he would expect to see the monopole. He suggested another test be done to show the visual effects of the monopole
