Marber will discuss when to start searching for colleges, how to fill out the college application, elements of a good essay, and how to obtain financial aid, grants, and scholarships. Free High Holiday family services available Songs and stories that appeal to children ages four through the teen years will be the main features of Temple Emanuel of North Jersey’s 90-minute High Holiday family services. These services will begin at 10 a.m. on Sep. 29 and 30, and Oct 8. The family services, which are free and open to the public, are designed for people with limited or no Hebrew reading skills. The services will be led by Cantor Rebecca Zwiebel, a former youth services leader at the West End Synagogue in Manhattan. Cantor Zwiebel, a graduate of the Jewish Theological Seminary, has previously conducted High Holiday family services in Michigan and served as the family service cantor in Melville, New York. Auxiliary plans meetings, welcomes newcomers The Franklin Lakes Branch of the Valley Hospital Auxiliary will hold a Welcome Back meeting on Monday, Sept. 19, at 10:30 a.m. at the Franklin Lakes Library, 470 DeKorte Drive in Franklin Lakes. This meeting is open to all auxiliary members and the general public. Prizes will be given to first time new members who join and their sponsors. Coffee and light refreshments will be served. Town Fair planned The Borough of Franklin Lakes will host the 2011 Franklin Lakes Town Fair on Saturday, Sept. 24 from 11 a.m. to 5 p.m. at the municipal field behind the library at 470 DeKorte Drive. Carnival rides and food booths will be open until 8 p.m. (Rain date: Sept. 25.) The fair will feature school and community organizations, houses of worship, the Franklin Lakes Chamber of Commerce, crafters, and vendors. High Holiday offers youth services In celebration of the upcoming Jewish High Holidays, the Chabad Jewish Center at 375 Pulis Avenue in Franklin Lakes will be offering free services to the community. The traditional and interactive services are led in a mixed English/Hebrew format and are followed with a Kiddush brunch. Youth services for children ages three through12 are held at 10:30 a.m. Children are grouped by age for activi- ties including holiday-themed stories, games, prayers, and crafts. Zerbini Circus coming to town The Franklin Lakes Lions Club will bring the Zerbini Circus back to McBride Field in Franklin Lakes on Sunday, Sept. 18. Performances will be held under the big tent at 1 p.m., 3 p.m., and 5 p.m., rain or shine. The show will feature an assortment of acts, including clowns, dogs, jugglers, acrobats, and aerialists. All of the dogs in the act came from animal shelters. The program brings in circus performers from all around the world. Pony and camel rides will be available before and after each show. Tickets are $9 in advance and $11 at the gate. Children age two and under will be admitted free. Advance purchase is recommended.
