This festive event will feature a walk-a-thon, dog contests (best kisser, best silly trick, dog/owner look alike, hot dog toss, best speaker, smallest dog, largest dog, best tail, best costume), a bone building contest, prizes, paw painting, face painting, demonstrations, vendors, adoptable dogs, prizes, music, food, and fun. The event is scheduled for Sept. 25 from 11 a.m. to 4 p.m. at Bergen Community College, 400 Paramus Road in Paramus. Admission is free. On Sept. 16, RBARI will hold a gift and craft sale at the Copper Tree Mall, 350 Ramapo Valley Road, Route 202 in Oakland. Hours will be from 9 a.m. to 9 p.m. The sale will also be held on Sept. 17 from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. Shoppers will find a wide range of beautiful gifts, some of which are animal-related. All proceeds directly benefit the animals at the shelter. The inaugural “Whiskers & Tails” Charity Ball is planned for Friday Nov. 4 from 7 to 11 p.m. at the Indian Trail Club, 830 Franklin Lake Road, in Franklin Lakes. Tickets are $125 and include a buffet dinner, auction, and dancing to the band Joe Zisa and Friends. Sponsorships and prize donations are still needed. The shelter is dedicated to the humane treatment of animals and their care and rehabilitation until they can be adopted into their “forever homes.” WEF 5K road closures announced The Wyckoff Township Committee has approved the road closings necessary for the Wyckoff Education Foundation 5K Run and Family Fun Walk on Oct. 15. The fundraiser will begin at 9:45 a.m. and continue until 12:30 p.m. Proceeds enhance education in the public schools with no additional burden on the taxpayers. The roads to be closed during the run and family fun walk are Calvin Court, Cedar Hill Avenue, James Way, Paine Road, Meer Avenue, Ellis Place, George Place, Florence Avenue, and Barbara Avenue. Motorists are urged to drive with extra caution during the Saturday morning run. Drivers should anticipate delays or plan an alternate route. Benefit for Les Paul exhibit set The Mahwah Bar and Grill at 2 Island Road in Mahwah will sponsor a fundraiser to benefit the Les Paul exhibit at the Mahwah Museum. On Sept. 14, the restaurant will donate 10 percent of its food receipts from 5 p.m. to 10 p.m. to the cause. The evening will include live music. The Mahwah Museum, which is located at 201 Franklin Turnpike in Mahwah, will open its Les Paul exhibit on Sept. 25. Oktoberfest to benefit Fell House The Concerned Citizens of Allendale will hold an Oktoberfest celebration on Friday, Sept. 30 at 7 p.m. at The Red Barn inside Crestwood Lake in Allendale. Tickets are $45 per person (adults only) and will include a traditional Oktoberfest meal catered by Allendale Bar & Grill, Oktoberfest beer donated by the Brooklyn Brewery, and DJ music.
