Lance Corporal Harrison J. Bruining was acknowledged by the Midland Park Mayor and Council as an asset to his hometown of Midland Park and to America. He was presented with a proclamation during last week’s meeting of the governing body. Bruining joined the United States Marine Corps in August, 2007, and served two deployments to Afghanistan as a radio operator and rifleman, including one to Helmand Province from Nov. 5, 2008 to June 1, 2009, and another to the Sangin region from January 2011 to May 1. He achieved the rank of lance corporal before his honorable discharge last month. Raised in Midland Park and a graduate of Eastern Christian High School, Bruining is the son of Nancy and Steven Bruin-

The proclamation, issued by Midland Park Mayor Joseph Monahan, states that service members seldom ask for support or recognition, but are brave heroes who protect and defend our country every day, performing their duties with quiet courage and strength. The document further states that service members put themselves in harm’s way every day with unwavering dedication so others may live and sleep in peace. Bruining was praised as a source of community pride, and urged to live with the knowledge that the entire community of Midland Park extends its deepest gratitude for his service, and that all are thankful he has returned home safely to his loved ones.
