Page 12 THE VILLADOM TIMES I • September 14, 2011 Wyckoff Wanderings Register for select traveling basketball Registration for The Wyckoff Recreation and Parks Department’s select traveling basketball teams for girls and boys in grades three through eight will take place through Sept. 23 at the recreation office. The program is open to Wyckoff residents only. Only players who register before the Sept. 23 deadline will be scheduled for tryouts, which will take place from late October through mid-November. Travel baseball registration under way The Wyckoff Recreation and Parks Department invites Wyckoff baseball players to register for the select traveling 9U through 12U baseball teams. All boys, ages nine through 12 as of April 30, 2012, who wish to try out at the 9U through 12U levels must register at the recreation office by Sept. 23. Tryouts for the teams will be held in October. Registration for the 8U and 13/14U teams will take place in December. The travel baseball program is open to Wyckoff residents only. Only those players who register by the deadline will be contacted regarding tryout dates. Tennis learning programs offered The Wyckoff Recreation and Parks Department welcomes Wyckoff residents (kindergarteners through adults) to participate in the Fall Tennis Learning Program. Clinics will be offered on Fridays from 4 to 7 p.m. beginning Sept. 23, and on Saturdays from noon to 4 p.m. beginning Sept. 24. The program is sponsored by the Wyckoff Recreation and Parks Department and will be directed by Tennis Dynamics. Participants may sign up for one or both sessions, depending on space availability. Classes will run for five weeks for one hour each at the Memorial Tennis Courts. Registrations will be accepted at the recreation office from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m., Monday through Friday until Sept.16. Cub Scouts welcome new members Cub Scout Pack 309 invites parents in the Sicomac and Coolidge schools to a Sept. 14 presentation about the Cub Scout program. Sessions will be held from 2:30 to 4 p.m. or 7 to 9 p.m. in the multi-purpose room at Coolidge School on Grandview Avenue. Cub Scouting is open to boys in grades one through five. Boys who join now will be eliglible to participate in the Annual Rocket Launch held at Wyckoff Memorial Field on Sunday, Sept. 18 from 12:30 to 3 p.m. Boys will build and lauch their own rockets. Community invited to Rosh Hashanah service Temple Beth Rishon is offering free High Holiday services which are open to the community. On Saturday, Sept. 24 at 8 p.m., the temple will host a Slichot service and a program featuring a viewing and discussion of the documentary “100 Voices: A Journey Home.” This service is a joint program with Congregation Beth Haverim-Shir Shalom. Slichot is a meditative preparatory service for the High Holidays. Young families are invited to celebrate the first day of Rosh Hashanah at a special family service at 5 p.m. on Sept. 29. Tashlich will then take place at the pond on the temple property followed by the evening service at 6 p.m. These services are all free of charge and open to the public. Auditions for ‘Miracle on 34th Street’ set The Y Arts Theatre Company at the Wyckoff Family YMCA will hold auditions for its December production of the musical, “Miracle on 34th Street,” on Sept. 17 from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. and Sept. 19 from 6:30 to 9 p.m. at the Y located at 691 Wyckoff Avenue in Wyckoff. The company is seeking to fill all roles: male and female, all ages (six through adult), all ethnicities, including actors, singers, and dancers. Participants are asked to prepare a short song, and to bring sheet music. An accompanist will be provided. A short dance combination will be taught. Photos and résumés should also be provided.
