Franklin Lakes September 14, 2011 THE VILLADOM TIMES I • Page 11 Perry to perform in ‘Secret Garden’ production Benjamin Perry, a 12-year old Tenafly resident with an extraordinary voice, will appearsin the role of Colin in the concert production of “The Secret Garden” on Sept. 17. The production will be presented at 7 p.m. at the Franklin Lakes United Methodist Church. The concert is free to the public and includes free refreshments and child care. The church is located at 454 Pulis Avenue in Franklin Lakes. Perry recently returned from Israel where he performed as a soloist in concert performances in Jerusalem. He was a vocal soloist and performed this summer in Shakespeare in the Park’s “Measure for Measure” and then went to make his conducting debut at the Crested Butte, Colorado Performing Arts Center where he also sang the role of Miles in “The Turn of the Screw.” He performed the boy solo role in Mendelssohn’s “Elijah” oratorio at Avery Fisher Hall with the New York Philharmonic last November, and covered the role of Arthur in “Séance on a Wet Afternoon” by Stephen Schwartz performed at New York City Opera. Perry was a soloist in New York City Opera’s VOX production of “Mary Shelley” and was featured in a special “Sesame Street” music episode. He has sung several solo roles at the Metropolitan Opera including “The Magic Flute,” “Pelleas,” and “Melisande,” and “Gianni Schicchi” and performed in the chorus of “Tosca,” “Carmen,” “Boris Godunov,” “La Boheme,” “Hansel and Gretel,” and “Queen of Spades.” Other favorite roles include Amahl in “Amahl and the Night Visitors” with Chelsea Opera, and Horton the Elephant in “Seussical” with Helen Hayes Youth Theater. He has also performed with Len Cariou in the musical “Once Upon a Past Time,” at the York Theater.
