Page 28 THE VILLADOM TIMES I & III • September 7, 2011 (continued from Restaurant page) With crooked Interpol agents and vicious members of the criminal underworld on their trail, these two assassins reluctantly join forces to take out their target before they are terminated. Van Damme is showing his age in this direct-to-DVD action flick. The fight scenes look staged and don’t contain the whiz-bang excitement of Van Damme’s earlier pictures. The action slows down a bit to reveal that Brazil does possess humanity and conscience in a subplot involving the stereotypical prostitute with a heart of gold. The only extra is a collection of deleted scenes. As the 2011 baseball season winds down, there is an opportunity to relive some of the sport’s highlights in the DVD series “Baseball’s Greatest Games” (A&E Entertainment), 10 individual DVDs focusing on memorable games. Local baseball fans may be interested in four of these. “The 1960 World Series, Game 7” features highlights of the game that cinched the series for the Pittsburgh Pirates against the powerful New York Yankees with Bill Mazeroski’s Series-ending home run, the first in Word Series history. “1986 World Series, Game 6” replays the second time the New York Mets won the title, this time against the Boston Red Sox, continuing the Sox’s long history of failure to win a World Series dating back to 1918. “2003 ALCS, Game 7” features the American League Championship Series contest between the Boston Red Sox and the DVD releases New York Yankees, when Aaron Boone’s eleventh-inning leadoff home run brought down the house and ended the Sox’s chance at Series rings. “2004 ALCS, Game 4” is a heartbreaker for Yankees fans. That crucial game went into the twelfth inning. The Bronx Bombers, having won the previous game 19-8, were on the verge of sweeping the Sox, but a ninth-inning walk started a monumental turnaround. “Criminal Minds: The Sixth Season” (Paramount Home Entertainment) is a six-disc set with all 24 episodes and lots of behind-the-scenes featurettes. The series follows an elite team of FBI profilers as they analyze the country’s most twisted criminal minds to anticipate their next moves before they strike again. In the sixth season, Behavioral Analysis Unit founding member David Rossi (Joe Mantegna) returns to help the team, while also pursuing some unfinished business of his own. “Two and a Half Men: The Complete Eighth Season” (Warner Home Video) finds clueless chiropractor Alan Harper (Jon Cryer) deciding it’s time to move out of the Malibu bachelor pad owned by his brother Charlie Harper (Charlie Sheen) and move in with his girlfriend Lyndsey (Courtney Thorne-Smith). Things take an unanticipated turn when Alan, his teenage son Jake (Angus T. Jones), and Lyndsey wind up back at Charlie’s after a fire breaks out at Lyndsey’s home. Also this season, Charlie finds himself smitten with Rose (Melanie Lynskey), his longtime stalker, and a desperate Alan attempts to save his failing business with an off-the-wall investment scheme. This two-disc DVD release includes 16 episodes, but no extras.
