Halloween Parade & Costume Contest set The Midland Park Recreation Department invites children from preschool age through the sixth grade to march in the Annual Halloween Parade at the DePhillips Center, 50 Dairy Street, on Sunday, Oct. 30 at 3 p.m. A Halloween Costume Contest will follow at the Midland Park High School Field. Prizes will be awarded. The high school is located at 250 Prospect Street. Church hosts Autumn Festival Midland Park Christian Reformed Church, located at 183 Godwin Avenue, will host its Autumn Festival on Saturday, Oct. 29 from noon to 4 p.m. The event will feature vendors, games for children, face painting, and arts and craft activities. Refreshments will be available. A portion of the proceeds from the festival will benefit the MPCRC Eastern Christian Tuition Aid Fund. For more information, call the church office at (201) 445-4260. Learn about the voice-over industry The Midland Park Continuing Education is offering a one session course on the voice-over industry on Thursday, Oct. 27 from 7 to 9 p.m. at Midland Park High School, 250 Prospect Street. This introductory course covers the numerous opportunities, income potential, and demos. Learn about an exciting, new way to get around the competition and actually turn voice-overs into a thriving full or part-time business! Lazzara and Allen perform flute and harp recital Patricia Lazzara and Barbara Allen will perform a recital, Heavenly Delights for Flute and Harp, on Sunday, Nov. 6 at 3 p.m. at the Midland Park Christian Reformed Church, 183 Godwin Avenue. The recital will include work by Saint-Saens, Inglebrecht, CPE Bach, Piazzolla, and Faure.
Lazzara is a three-time winner of the Artists International competition in New York City. She has performed as soloist for the National Flute Association Professional Flute Choir and is a Miyazawa Flute Artist. She is the 2007 winner of the Florida Flute Association Performers Grant for Advanced Study. She is a founding member of UpTown Flutes, an innovative flute ensemble in residence at Drew University in Madison. The executive director of Music for Life, a musical instruction program in private and parochial schools, Lazzara is on the faulty of Rockland Conservatory of Music and Ackerman’s Music Center. Allen, second-prize winner in the Seventh International Harp Competition held in Israel, has appeared as soloist with the Caramoor and Waterloo festivals, Philharmonia Virtuosi, Greenwich Symphony, and Hudson Valley Philharmonic. She is a member of Parnassus, the Perspectives Ensemble, and L’Opera Francais and has appeared with Tashi, Orpheus, Saint Luke’s Chamber Ensemble and the New World String Quartet. She is currently principal harpist with the American Ballet Theater orchestra, and the Greenwich Symphony. There will be a suggested donation at the door of $15. Halloween Trunk or Treat planned Faith Reformed Church will host its annual Trunk or Treat on Monday, Oct. 31 from 3 to 4:30 p.m. in the church parking lot at 95 Prospect Street. Children are invited to trick or treat in the parking while parents hand out Halloween candy in a safe environment. Parents who plan to drive to the lot and hand out candy are asked to call the church, (201) 444-1694, beforehand. Alliance offers Parent Seminar The Midland Park Community Alliance will host a parent seminar, Bridging the Gap: What Parents Don’t Know and Teens Aren’t Telling” on Thursday, Oct. 27. The program will be held at 7:30 p.m. at in the media center/ library at Midland Park High School, 250 Prospect Street. The seminar will address alcohol drug use and abuse and destructive decision making by teens. The seminar
will provide parents with information about what teens are doing today and how parents can speak with their children, other adults, and the community regarding these behaviors and how to address them. MPHS Class of 1981 sets reunion The Midland Park Class of 1981 will hold its 30-year reunion on Nov. 25 at Mark’s Village Inn, 422 Runnymede Drive in Wayne. The cost is $40 per person, and payment is due by Nov. 1. Classmates interested in attending may contact Kelly Perrine at jkperrine@optonline.net. Scouts seek donations for Baby Bundles Midland Park Brownie Troops 106 and 568 will hold a Baby Bundles Drive during the month of October. The Baby Bundles campaign is a community effort to help local babies get a good start. New and unused baby items are welcome. Collection boxes are located at the Midland Park Public Library, Highland and Godwin schools, Midland Park High School, Dunkin’ Donuts, A&P Supermarket, and Kings Supermarket. The Girl Scouts will package the donated items in bundles for needy babies and distribute them through churches and social service agencies in the community. Baby items needed are: diaper ointment, washcloths, towels, diapers, baby shampoo, baby lotion, diaper wipes, bottles, clothes, infant toys, pacifiers, blankets, and bibs. Scouts host popcorn fundraiser Midland Park Cub Scouts Pack 157 and their fellow Boy Scouts will be selling popcorn outside of Sears and the A&P in Midland Park on weekends this fall. The popcorn is sold in packages of varying sizes and the cost ranges from $6 to $22. Several varieties are offered, including butter toffee, caramel, cheddar cheese, and chocolate.
