June Shaw honored for six decades of volunteerism
June Shaw of Wyckoff was recently honored for her long-time service to the Wyckoff Branch of the Valley Hospital Auxiliary. Shaw, a past branch chairman, has served on the auxiliary’s board for six decades. This charter member of the organization has been volunteering with the auxiliary since 1951, before the hospital was built. When she started, her work included volunteering at Kurth Cottage and providing sewing services, the only two tasks the Auxiliary performed then. Now there are 70 job descriptions for Auxiliary members, she said. Shaw also volunteered at the Cerebral Palsy Center, then sited on the Valley Hospital’s grounds. As a member of the Wyckoff Auxiliary’s board, Shaw has served as historian, publicity chair, and membership chair. She is most proud of her involvement in celebration of the chapter’s 50th Anniversary, a “Renaissance Dinner” which she chaired. A troupe dressed in period costumes
