Y hosts Holiday Marketplace The Wyckoff Family YMCA, 691 Wyckoff Avenue, Wyckoff will host its first Holiday Marketplace on Saturday, Nov. 5 from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. This holiday season preview will bring vendors selling a myriad of quality products including, jewelry, handbags, pottery, children’s apparel, toys, housewares, folk art, fine art, and hair and fashion accessories. There is no admission fee. A portion of all sales will benefit the Y’s community outreach programs. Free ‘Gasland’ screening offered There will be a free screening of “Gasland,” a film by Josh Fox, on Thursday, Oct. 27 in the auditorium at Ramapo High School, 33 George Street in Franklin Lakes. The program is sponsored by the Ramsey and Wyckoff environmental commissions, the environmental clubs of Indian Hills and Ramapo high schools, the North Jersey Public Policy Network, Friends of Wyckoff, and Food and Water Watch of New Jersey. “Gasland” takes a hard look at the controversial practice of “fracking” or hydraulic fracking, which is sweeping the country, particularly in the Marcellus Shale region of New York, New Jersey, and Pennsylvania. Following the screening, representatives of Food and Water Watch will be on hand to talk about the film and what fracking means to New Jersey. OPRC schedules 139th Harvest Fair Ridgewood’s historic Old Paramus Reformed Church will hold its 139th Harvest Fair on Saturday, Nov. 5 from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. in the barrier-free education building at 660 East Glen Avenue in Ridgewood. The fair features a “Garage Sale,” a contest featuring gift-baskets that include certificates from local shops and restaurants, a Christmas corner, jewelry, linens, books and records, toys, antiques, china, collectibles, and more. A Bake Shoppe and Pantry will sell homemade baked goods and soups, and a produce stand will feature cheeses and fresh-from-the-orchard apples and other produce. DAR celebrates 70th Anniversary The Saddle River Chapter of the National Society of the Daughters of the American Revolution will celebrate its 70th Anniversary with an educational lecture and slide show entitled “The Attack on Pearl Harbor and Oahu,” on Monday, Oct. 24 at noon in the Franklin Lakes Public Library, 470 DeKorte Drive in Franklin Lakes. The program will be presented by Dr. James Kane, a former teacher, school principal, and superintendent of schools. Kane is currently an adjunct professor of education at William Paterson University and a captain in the USMCR. Among his many honors, he is a recipient of the New Jersey Governor’s Medal. Attending the anniversary celebration and special program will be the New Jersey State Regent, Madam Diane Argraves, a member of the Haddonfield Chapter, NSDAR. The local DAR chapter was organized on Sept. 29, 1941 at the home of Mrs. Helen Plant of Ridgewood with 13 charter members. Today, the chapter’s 119 members live throughout Bergen County. Membership is open to any woman, 18 years of age or older, who can prove lineal descent from an American Revolutionary War patriot who aided in achieving American independence. Society to present ‘Orphan Trains’ The Genealogical Society of Bergen County will offer a screening of “Orphan Trains” at its meeting on Monday, Oct. 24 at 7 p.m. at the Ridgewood Public Library, 125 North Maple Avenue in Ridgewood.
