(Rain date: Friday, Oct. 21.) Inflatables, games, face painting, prizes, tattoo art, baked goods, and a mum sale will be featured. Vendors sought for foundation fundraiser The Midland Park Public Education Foundation is seeking vendors for its upcoming “Military Bridge and Shopa-thon” event to be held on Thursday, Nov. 17 from 6 to 10 p.m. at the Midland Park High School. This event is expected to draw 200 people and is timed to coincide with peak holiday shopping. A limited amount of vendors will display their wares in the hallways of the school. During the initial hour, and during a break in card play, Military Bridge attendees will have the opportunity to shop. The shop-a-thon will also be open to the public. The fee for a table is $25, and a donation for the prize baskets is requested. Church hosts Blood Drive Faith Reformed Church, located at 95 Prospect Street in Midland Park, will host a Blood Drive on Monday, Oct. 24 from 5 to 8:30 p.m. Area blood supplies are currently low, and the support of the community is needed. All types of blood are needed especially types O- and O+. Any healthy individual age 17 through 75 and weighing at least 110 pounds can donate blood. Donors should eat a moderate meal before donating and must bring identification showing signature. All donors receive a complimen- tary cholesterol screening with every blood donation. The Community Blood Services Bloodmobile will be accepting donations of whole blood or platelets. Shortway to be honored Resident Harry Shortway Jr. will be honored at a testimonial dinner sponsored by the Midland Park United Republican Club on Wednesday, Oct. 5 at 6:30 p.m. at the Brick House in Wyckoff. Currently serving as a Bergen County undersheriff in charge of the foreclosures and writs division of the department, Shortway retired from the Ridgewood Police Department in 2002 with the rank of detective sergeant after 42 years on the force. A former Marine, he turned down an offer to play baseball for the Saint Louis Cardinals minor league team in 1958 and decided to become a police officer, joining the Ridgewood Police Department in 1960. He served as a Bergen County undersheriff from 2002 to 2005 and ran for Bergen County Sheriff in 1998 and 2007. The Midland Park High School Marching Band will present “Fire and Flight,” featuring music from the movie “How to Train Your Dragon” and Stravinsky’s “Firebird Suite.” Ten high school marching bands from Bergen and Passaic counties will also perform. The gates will open at 12:30 p.m. and performances will begin at 1 p.m. Admission is $10 for adults; $5 for Midland Park residents, senior citizens, and students. Columbus Day Pasta Dinner planned Midland Park Knights of Columbus will hold its annual Columbus Day Pasta Dinner on Saturday, Oct. 8 from 5 to 7 p.m. in Kennedy Hall at the Church of the Nativity, 315 Prospect Street. In addition to the usual $10 “all you can eat” pasta, bread, salad and desserts, this year’s dinner will feature chicken parmesan, which will be available for an additional charge of $3.
