Authors discuss new book on essential oils Elena Yordan and Carrie Donegan will discuss their new book, “Essential Oils 101,” at the Franklin Lakes Public Library on Tuesday, Oct. 4 at 7 p.m. The authors will share information about the use of healthy products to keep body and mind fit. Regional school board seeks trustee The Ramapo Indian Hills Board of Education is seeking a Franklin Lakes resident to fill a six-month, unexpired term due to the resignation of Wayne Peterson. Interested community members may submit a letter of interest to Business Administrator/Board Secretary Frank C. Ceurvels, Ramapo Indian Hills Regional High School District Board of Education, 131 Yawpo Avenue, Oakland, New Jersey 07436, by Monday, Oct. 17. Letters of interest will be reviewed by the board of education and an interview schedule will be established. Legal requirements for board membership include: U.S. citizenship and a minimum of one year’s residency in the school district; no interest in any contract with, or claim against, the board; the ability to read and write. Candidates may not hold any other elected office and must be registered to vote in the district. Events for teens announced The Advisory Council for the Community by Teens will meet in the Local History Room of the Franklin Lakes Library on Wednesday, Oct. 5 at 5 p.m. This teen volunteer organization of Franklin Lakes students in grades six through 12 promotes teen services in the library and organizes local and global community service programs. No registration required. In celebration of Teen Read Week, Franklin Lakes students in grades six through nine are invited to help create a mural to be displayed in the Young Adult
Room with professional artist Brandon Dorney from Art Kids Rule. The activity will take place on Wednesday, Oct. 12 from 4 to 5 p.m. Registration is under way for Franklin Lakes residents. If space permits, non-residents may register on Monday, Oct. 10. A Zombie Pizza Party is planned for teens in grades six through eight on Wednesday, Oct. 19 from 4 to 5:30 p.m. Attendees are encouraged to wear their Halloween costumes. The event will feature face painting, zombie limbo, and pizza. This event is open to Franklin Lakes residents. Registration may be completed at the library. For more information, call (201) 8912224. Flavian performs Mind Games Flavian and his Mind Reading Game Show will be at the Franklin Lakes Library on Tuesday, Oct. 18 at 7 p.m. Flavian’s mind games are designed to make audiences smile, laugh, and feel good. All ages are welcome to attend this delightful and energetic program as Flavian helps audience members accomplish incredible feats of “Mental Magic.” Seats will be available on a first-comefirst-served basis. Hladik to discuss ghost hunting L’Aura Hladik, founder of the New Jersey Ghost Hunters Society, will present a talk and slide show, “Mysteries of the Paranormal,” on Oct. 10. The program will be held at 7 p.m. at the Franklin Lakes Public Library, 470 DeKorte Drive in Franklin Lakes. Hladik, who has been investigating
paranormal activity since 1993, founded the New Jersey Ghost Hunters Society in 1998. To date, the NJGHS is the largest paranormal organization in the state with over 700 members. She is the author of “Ghosthunting New Jersey” and “Ghosthunting New York City.” Library hosts poetry reading Author Amy Nelson Hahn will share poetry from her newly published book, “What Time and Tempest Hold is True,” at the Franklin Lakes Public Library on Wednesday, Oct. 12 at 7 p.m. Hahn’s reading will be accompanied by slide photography by Andrew P. McVeigh. All are welcome to attend. The library is located at 470 DeKorte Drive. Free High Holiday family services available Songs and stories that appeal to children ages four through the teen years will be the main features of Temple Emanuel of North Jersey’s 90-minute High Holiday family service at 10 a.m. on Oct 8. The family service, which is free and open to the public, is designed for people with limited or no Hebrew reading skills. The service will be led by Cantor Rebecca Zwiebel, a former youth services leader at the West End Synagogue in Manhattan. Cantor Zwiebel, a graduate of the Jewish Theological Seminary, has previously conducted High Holiday family services in Michigan and served as the family service cantor in Melville, New York.
